For someone such as yourself who is buying for the first time(?), the best thing you can do is keep the transaction simple. Sometimes it is easier to leave your trade out of the equation. If you feel the dealer is low-balling you on your trade, check out other avenues such as Carmax. They buy your car and you don't have to buy from them. You won't always get the best price, but if a dealer is offering you bottom-dollar on your trade, it may be worth the legwork to find out. That means, if possible, stick to one variable at a time. Negotiate a price for your new car first, and line up alternatives to dispose of your old car- whether it's private party sale, Carmax, etc. Check out the buying tips and articles on edmunds, and also the Real World Trade Values forum. You can post the particulars of your Camry and find out from the experts what it is really worth.

A national personal finance magazine is looking to interview consumers who have recently purchased (within the past year) a new Lexus IS250/IS350 and would like to talk about your new car. Please send an e-mail to ctalatiedmunds.com no later than Wednesday, June 28, 2006 by 2:00 PM PST/5:00 EST containing your daytime contact information. Thanks, Chintan Talati |

should I be paying for a base IS250 RWD with automatic? Thanks! |

So i have been getting quotes, 40,400 for a loaded is350 which i dont think i can afford, and 33,800 for a 250 with nav, which from what i have been reading on this forum is pretty good. my questions to owners is, i live in a mountainous area I wanted to know how the IS250 would hold up on pretty steep hills and if turning on the AC take out a substantial bite out of the power (as it has in my previous cars - landcruiser, toyota previa, infiniti fx35) thanks.

Replying to: clpurnell (Jun 28, 2006 3:34 pm) Also, dealers seem to expect full MSRP (about $6,000 profit on a 35K car with approx. 3% holdback) but do not have the expense of keeping a good selection of IS's in inventory... they want full MSRP even though many (most?) folks have to special order (to get the options and color they want) -- RESULT: customer waits months and dealer (order taker) gets max profits (with little or no expense or business risk). |

I currently work for Toyota, and they were the only dealership to take that into consideration. Good luck, and I hope things work out for you. The deal that I worked out took 4 months. Be patient, and don't be afraid to walk out until they deal on your terms.
