With help from this forum and specifically KMICH71 on the price, I found my Smokey Granite Mica Lexus at Lexus of Woodfield on the lot. "You caught my manager at a weak moment" the salesman said. I know he had the car on the lot for about 2 weeks which at the rate they tell you they are fleeing the lots was fortunate for me. I started by calling my local dealer in Peoria who would only come $700 off MSRP. Then I called several others in Chicago including KMICH71's dealer who sold him the car for $36878. I asked for the same price and they agreed, but they didn't have it on the lot. They wanted $500 to locate one on deposit. I called Woodfield and they had one, matching the price at Westmont Lexus. I agreed since it was within a few hundred dollars of my original offer to all of them at $36450. List was $39,919. There is pricing power in the community of buyers. Thanks to everyone's contribution here and especially to KMICH71 who was the catalyst of fairly simple negotiation and a savings of over $3K under MSRP. I probably could have done a little better had I called a few more dealers or waited a couple more weeks, but you just never know. They had one on the lot. I pick it up Friday.

ineedanewcar,

yes, i got my car already, wish i had gotten your msg earlier so we could team up, but anyways, here is my info: got it for 33,259 (orig. msrp 36,504).

my advice to you: get it on the last day of the month. i just shopped around my internet offers to different dealerships online - and asked if they could beat a previous offer. at first the internet managers just ignore you, so i ignored them, but as it gets close to the end of the month, they will reply to your offers.

Just curious ineedanewcar, which dealership gave you the 33,791 offer? (That's the cheapest original offer I have heard of in this area, before I started actually shopping around offers and bargaining with the dealers. Thanks.)

Though not directly applicable, we recently leased an IS250. This was a web purchase through Edmund's get a quote from local dealers service. - Mixed results. MSRP $34309 was quoted at $32809. Base IS250 - without Navigation, but with 18 inch Wheel, Moon Roof, Spoiler, 6-CD, Ventilated seats. plus plus. Our lease was about $565/mo with first month's payment out of pocket - that's all. Keep in mind that lease has gap protection included. To me that's worth a lot if I total a brand new car. This was out of the Phoenix metro area. I felt I left a little $ on the table, but I also didn't feel like I got a porr deal per the forums. I also didn't feel like doing major haggling to save maybe $30/mo - it was raining in PHX at the time I can give you dealer's info if you want to travel. It's really nice - RIGHT NOW, better hurry the heat is coming soon! Good luck!

Hi ccc61,

Putnam gave me that starting offer (33,791). They were quite nice. They just didn't have the combination I wanted in stock. Where did you get the final offer from and which color combination did you get? Did you lease or buy?

i bought from putnam: smokey granite/grey interior.

one question i have for you and the other readers is: is the $45.00 document fee a legit fee or is it one of those bogus fees the dealer adds on?

I was wondering bwcathe who you worked with at the dealerships. I am going to be buying the same car and I want to know who will give me the deal as well as who deserves my business. Did it take long to haggle a bit or did the dealer accept the price fairly quickly? I plan to buy in about a month and any info you can give me would be helpful. Thanks!

Ohhhh. That's good information. Well, I've got a blue/black coming in two weeks. If I don't like it my next choice is smoky granite/sterling. I hope Putnam will give it to me for the same price you got.
