Did you order your car through Lexus of Tampa Bay? Or Clearwater? Are you from the Sarasota area? If so did you check with them before ordering through Tampa? I was going to get my through Tampa but didn't want to pay full MSRP so I told them I would come back. Took a shot in the dark with Wilde and bam....$2500 under MSRP without even trying!
Plus it was a straight forward deal....no bs....just awaiting the arrival of my color combo....and to top it all off the dealership is top notch!!!!!
What options did you get?
Thanks

? ABOUT THE BRAKES

My friend is a mechanic for Toyota in NJ and he tells me that both the 250 and 350 use special high friction brake pads which wear out extremely fast and break down the rotors as well. He said you should be monitoring the brake pads within 15K miles and that the rotors will get you to about 40-50K with average braking use. Combined with the low treadlife on these tires, it seems that this car is going to cost much more to maintain. Nothing luxuruous about that I guess... Has anyone heard about this? He said it is in the brochure..

I guess Toyota is really trying to be like Europeans. BMW and MB (as examples) use high-carbon content brake pads that provides great bite, but high level of dust. BMW also uses fairly thin rotors in order to reduce unsprung weight. So a typical BMW would need to change the pad and rotor at each brake service, but DIYers will replace the rotors every other service. Unless one rides the brake all the time, they should still last >30,000 miles. I have never replaced pads/rotors before 30,000 miles on any of the cars we own (03 M5, 02 530 before that, 94 Integra, 04 Sienna) and I drive in DC metro area with lots of stop-and-go.

Thanks for the reply.. I'm deciding between an awd 325 BMW and AWD IS, but they are totally different vehicles....
The BMW is nicely balanced ride and replaces your pads/rotors if needed for the first 4yrs/50k... but the interior luxury of the Lexus is much nicer. The maintenance on both is a big consideration, especially with BMW and run-flat tires. I guess I'm just not used to having to replace tires brakes and rotors on any of my cars before 45-50K, but times have changed I guess.

Not sure about the brake story. I know the old IS had excellent brakes that were very grippy, produced very little dust, and lasted quite a while.

I can confirm what sender1 wrote. It's on page 37 of the brochure under "Disclaimers". It applies to the front breaks only.

The rear's aren't vented on the 250, solid disk.

Sorry it took me so long to respond, holiday shopping and all. Went through Lexus of Tampa Bay. I'm from Sarasota and tried them first but dealt with a new salesman who kept pushing me to come back and test drive after I'd already been there twice and told him I was ready to order. So I left there and called my Tampa salesman (bought three from him previously) and told him what I wanted on the phone and gave the deposit. Haven't discussed the cost yet but the Wilde internet guy is waiting in the wings. He said they probably won't be getting in any IS 350's with sports packaging though unless special ordered. I ordered the IS 350 Tungsten Pearl with black leather interior, sports package, and navigation. According to Sarasota that would list for $42,499. They would sell it for $39,980 plus $489.50 dealer fee and tax and tags. That is still quite a bit over invoice but if you want the car when it is first out you have to pay for it. So, I'm waiting for the car to come in to Tampa and will see what kind of deal they are offering. If they aren't going to budge off of MSRP I'll say thank you very much and order it and wait again from Sarasota. I'll already have waited three months now by the time it comes in so the price should keep going down. I do like the Sarasota dealership and they do a good job in the service dept.

I'll vouch for Wilde Lexus of Sarasota as well. After reading the posts here about the success of getting a deal below MSRP (completely impossible from the Austin, Houston, Dallas, and San Antonio dealers), I requested a quote from their webpage, and got the same deal mentioned above (~$2500 below MSRP). The gentleman who contacted me immediately via email, then again with a follow up by phone today, was prompt, courteous and honest with the details. (Speaking of the details, even the Virginia, etc. dealers I called didn't have any Sport options in stock, and that's the only region with a chance of having it in stock, given the results I got testing tons of zipcodes in the online Lexus configurator. Every salesperson I've talked has given the same information - nationwide, if you want the Sport package, it's special-order).
I'll post here again when I have the faxed order receipt and shipping costs to Austin (~$500 seems to be on par). I don't know how I'm going to wait 60-90days for my Blue Onyx Pearl/Cashmere/Sport/Nav/Sat! Until then, I definitely recommend Wilde Lexus of Sarasota.
