BTW Does anyone know the current (today might be the last day) 3-mo payment promotion? How does it work? I have two payments left the dealer just told me that they will waive those which I don't think is much of a promotion at all.

From FL, I dealt with MB of North Olmsted, in Ohio. They beat anything local hands down b/c of large dealership volume. Everything done by email, fax, and they transported it by truck from port, accompanied by a sales rep.

I called MB Finance and was hoping to get the $12,000 off buyout. They took about $10,000 off and I still needed to make the remaining payments. I told them I would buy it today if they waived the remaining payments (around $2000 lease is up Nov 21st), but they said no dice. I only have 18,000 miles on the car and can put 27,000 so I am thinking of buying it. I am due with my next child Nov 17th, a few days before lease is up and thinking I would just rather buy than deal with finding another car right now however I am not going to pay more than what the car is worth. I may call back Sept 1st and see if they changed their tune since I think they will have a ton of these coming in since they were practically giving these away when I got mine.

My contract buyout was $38,000 and they said I could buy it for $28,000 plus remaining lease payments.

$8000 incentive for AWD and $6000 for RWD

Has anyone else confirmed that the current August '08 incentive on 2008 R-Class is only for purchases and not leases? Is this only regional? Has anyone in the West Coast (e.g. California) confirmed that the incentive is only good for purchases?

Not sure what was the residual value but the 29.9k was already reduced by 12k. I guess it was a July deal. July was really the best time to get a used car. I mean, THIS July.
Anyway I got the document they sent me and looks like the offer was for end of the lease term as well, not the CURRENT value. I still have 2 months to go.
I have decided to get a new lease. Like the auto dimming mirrors, rearview cam, parking sensors, auto folding mirrors etc.

interesting that MB is now offering $10k (maybe $12k??) discounts on the residuals - as recently as May, someone posted that they only offered a $4500 discount on an '06 24mo lease coming due. My 27 mos lease is up this fall with a $42k buyout. I suspect that the $10k adjustment will increase quite a bit in a few months as the '09s roll out.
May wholesale auction #s for R500s ranged from $27-29k. I tihnk it is safe to assume that fall wholesale #s will drop another 5-8% as the '09s come out - so MB finance lower buyouts to right around $25-30k - I suspect they will keep buy out prices $1-3k above wholesale on a model that has very little retail re-sale appeal to dealers - otherwise they risk losing money at auction - god knows the dealers wont want but one or two 3 yr old R500s on their lots....
