| I am looking to lease an R. The deal on the table from the dealership is invoice minus $2K in MB lease dollars, but on Edmunds.com it looks like the dealer gets $6K in support and the TMV price is about $4K under invoice...........thoughts? | |

Speaking with a couple of MB dealers to lease R350 AWD, P2, RSE, 7-seat, Panorama roof, ipod kit, 6-cd, heated seats. At one dealer: Invoice $56,170 for Alpine Rain : $2450 due at signing, he came down to $699/mo (from $722). At another dealer for similar vehicle $4700 at signing and $610/mo. Both inlcude taxes. Both scenarios strike me as high compared to what I have seen on this board. I'd be interested in other feedback.

I was hoping to stay in the $585 - $620 range and the only way that is happening is if I drop 4k - 5k up front, which for a lease is ridiculous.

It's funny to see people talking about leasing here. Paying $600+/month for 24 months plus down payment, you are paying about $20k for 2 years!! Why not just buy it? It may cost $50k but it makes much more sense if you keep it for a few years longer, it worths the bucks to buy it. Plus, why would people buy a mercedes or bmw if they cannot afford it? i've seen people in my company probably make only around $60k a year but he drives a $40k bmw. And he thinks he can afford it because his paycheck has enough to cover the monthly lease. Well, it seems a lot of people are doing the same, but I just don't get it.

Replying to: joeslacker (Jun 26, 2008 11:59 pm) For example I own a 2001 Audi A6 that I purchased certified pre-owned when it came off of a lease (not mine) and after the extended warranty ran out I have been avg about $3k a year in repairs, mostly normal wear and tear (brakes, tires, etc.) plus a couple of other annoying items. Take that plus the $90 oil changes several times a year and it adds up, and is quite annoying as well. In my opinion it is just plain easier to lease and re-up for a newer model in 2-3 years. You keep a reasonable monthly payment, take advantage of the latest & greatest gadgets, advancements, etc., and you don't have to worry about the somewhat unexpected cost and inconvenience of repairs when things wear out or just plain break - which will happen with every car. Additionally you get better service/attention from the dealer beause they know when your lease runs out that you are going to be in the market again. I do not disagree with your point of making monthly lease payments with no ownership, but from my perspective you are also paying for the added convenience and piece of mind that you don't have to worry about being in the repair shop when things start to wear down, which they will over time. With regards to cost, affording a luxury vehicle is not an issue for me, but I am sure everyone would agree that no one wants to be paying more money for a similar vehicle then the next guy. That is why these forums are so popular so it can give the average joe some leverage when dealing with a vendor that histroically has stuck it to the uninformed buyer.
