"I said the Miata was easier to drive at the limit with stock tires."

Do you mean compared to driving it on R-compounds, then yeah, I can see that, but that sudden transition to oversteer doesn't sound like a good thing even if you're on street rubber.

If you mean compared to the Solstice, I'm curious as to what basis you have for saying so - if the Solstice can easily be pushed to the limit on Hoosiers, even with their rather sudden breakaway, why would it be worse on street tires?

I don't know from experience. But most reviews say that in the Miata it's easier to drive at the limit. No snap oversteer on normal tires, quite the opposite. My BASIC POINT is that both cars have very different behavior with normal tires as they do with race tires. It happens that one gets worse, and the other gets better.

What I said about their stock behaviors is not my comparison. It's that of automotive journalists.

The Pontiac people didn't bother to worry about trunk space in the new Solstice since they knew that GM owners would be afraid to go out of town in this car anyway. Hopefully they will ad OnStar so they can easily call for assistance when they break down.

dont understand the attitude toward this car....oh by the way..OnStar is an option on the car...but you didnt seem to know that......hope you are enjoying your MX-5....did you drive or see a solstice before you bought the MX-5?..just curious....as for the famous trunk space....there is plenty of room to pack for a long weekend for us....late 40s here.....granted you cant throw the hard sided overnight bag into it.....but there is room.....just like the first miata owners discovered how to pack and utilize all the space available...so are the solstice owners like ourselves.....

and we have had the car on several.."out of town" trips already......

Do I detect a hint of jealousy here?????...why would a MX5 fan post on a solstice site????? just kidding...car purchases are a personal choice....anyway..so enjoy your miata.......

Wow. Such cutting insight!

I had my share of issues with my NB Miata.

GM performs much higher on quality ratings than Ford and Mazda.

There is nothing to suggest the Solstice and Sky will not continue the trend.

I was totally surprised to actually see a red solstice "for sale" and proudly displayed at my local Pontiac dealer last month....especially since that day the newspaper had an article proclaiming that the allotment was "sold out". I stopped to take a first hand look and the salesman promptly told me that it was available for (now get this) an ADDITIONAL $7,000 on top of sticker price. I don't believe in paying sticker let alone a premium just to have the newest shiny toy on the block.............especially on a car that is bound to depreciate as much as the GM product. I saw the Sky at the San Diego auto show. It is an extremely good looking car....but I don't believe in buying on looks alone. I have a 99 Miata anniversary edition that is supercharged and have already had the immense pleasure of trouncing Boxsters and S2000's both in acceleration and cornering/handling. I personally can't wait to meet my first Solstice on the street or track to give the owner their walking papers.

The dealer's 'Asking price' and sales price are completely different things. I'm quite certain he would have let it go for only $6,000 on top of sticker......

unfortunately there are a few independent dealers..that are taking the free market to a new level with the prem market up.....and giving GM and Pontiac a bad name in the process...not considering customer loyalty.....sounds like you enjoy your Miata..and that is all good....I too am enjoying our solstice.....Im not a racer or an autocross kinda of guy...so I will gladly let you trounce me.......and I will still love my Sol....have a great day....and be safe
