I dont think pontiac has missed the boat......their promise was to get the first 1000 out by the end of Oct....first four month allocation customer orders have been hitting the dealers for about two weeks now.....I think GM totally under estimated the appeal of this car.....most people still dont know it even exists...so when you see it more and more on the road...I think the appeal will grow...witha bout 7000 scheduled to be build this calendar year.....you arent going to see many around just yet.....and you probably certainly will not see one in a dealers lot to drive for quite a while..unless the dealer wants a true premium on the car which I will not pay.....I have driven both...and have had my solstice on orders since May....should see it around Xmas....has it finally has been picked up for production....with 13K plus orders and the 06 model virtually sold out...I dont think GM is complaning...but again....its small numbers..the roadster is a niche market for sure.......the G6 has sold over 300K units this year...

again not a car nut....but having driven both .....I preferred the Solstice...only time will tell how it holds up in long term.....against the MX-5

Since you are so good at figuring out, and repeating, and repeating, and repeating what is dragging Porsche down to the brink of bankruptcy, perhaps you have some ideas to pull GM out of it?? Might require you to give up your UAW membership, but that card is melting anyway.

I assume by your interjection that you agree with lbthedawg and competing in the sports car / roadster category it's all about image, not substance? Forget my suggestion then, Even Heaven can't help GM.

According to GM's own website they have sold 88,587 G6 cars through September not 300,000. That compares with 120,213 Grand Ams sold for the same time period during 2004.

I think they have missed a big sales opportunity with the Solstice. Because of production issues the car was not available for the summer. By the time winter is over the buzz on the car will be long gone and I bet quite a few of those people waiting will have gotten their deposit back and moved on.

sorry..my mistake...was looking at another source....wondering if that number was combined sales.....anyway....will have to see...I think the marketing scheme for the solstice was lacking....not many know about it still..but all in the early order program knew the car wasnt going to hit till early sept/oct....now that they are flowing to customers...believe most will be in for the long haul.....I was doubtful until I actually saw and rode in one.....order in May..will perhaps see it in Dec....

Two cheap sports cars.

One very well styled and one with no styling,

Take a guess which is which?

If somebody wants to go fast, they buy neither and go get a Mustang or used Vette.

Forget the rest of the noise, this thread is just some way for the Miata bunch to try and make up some junk for getting so badly crushed in the image department.

Well Ford sure as heck bailed out Mazda to the tune of ignoring their home market. And better watch out because Porsche is throwing cash at VW which may turn into a huge money pit.

Never say never about the auto industry because there seems to be another Toyota based recall today on the heels of a 1.2 million recall yesterday.

Look the end is if a few disappointed Mazda cronies are looking for a way to trash the Solstice because their new model is such a dud, go do the trashing over on the Mazda thread.

You really don't think you are going to get free shots every where.

Not everybody on the Edmunds site is as biased as the "experts" that write for them.

is for comparing/contrasting the features of the Solstice and MX-5, and everyone is welcome to express his/her opinion here. If you don't agree with someone's opinion, please refute it respectfully. If you don't like what someone else has to say, read on. Thanks.

I think you're missing one point here, the Miata has always sold, and sold well, on the basis that it is a simple little roadster. I agree that the looks of the Solstice are much nicer, but you can't discount the new MX-5 as a "DUD" just yet. I still think the deciding factor on the car will be the reliability factor of both - and that's months down the road. Solstice has no numbers to back it up, but I think the Miata has a pretty good reputation in that dept!

Bottom line, absolutely no doubt about it, put the Solstice next a Miata (even though it wants to hide it's name) in a parking lot and the Solstice crushes, destroys, annihilates the Mazda.

There simply is no argument about it.

There is a huge gap here, I dare say you ask a hundred people which car has the edge in looks and well over 90% will give it to the Pontiac.

And though some want to avoid it, this is significant because no matter how it is avoided, Pontiac has caught and passed so much of the competition the defenders of the competition have to resort to cliches and fairy tales.

Yes a first year car is the leader in class over a car with a 15 year head start.

And what slight weaknesses real, imagined or fabricated there are, they will be soon resolved with strengths in other areas.

And what is more significant, the Saturn Sky is just around the corner.

Interesting.

Style points appears to be everything when it comes to convertible sportscars (Pontiac Solstice vs. Mazda Miata).......but style doesn't mean anything with 2-door muscle coupes (Pontiac GTO vs. Ford Mustang).

You Pontiac guys need to get it together on just when style is everything and when style is nothing......
