Replying to: habitat1 (Oct 16, 2005 3:33 pm) lbthedawg was comparing the 2006 Pontiac Solstice with the new Mazda MX-5, not a new 911 S which can suffer from the RMS (rear main seal) leaks dating back to the first Boxsters and 996s. I just recently showed pictures and information of the new Pontiac Solstice to a friend and they were suprised to hear that it was a Pontiac and not some fancier car make. The Solstice does have a more upmarket look that the new MX-5. I'd like to see the opinion of a race car driver concerning the new MX-5 vs. Solstice rather than what edmunds has to say.

"...not a new 911 S which can suffer from the RMS (rear main seal) leaks dating back to the first Boxsters and 996s." Since you are so good at figuring out, and repeating, and repeating, and repeating what is dragging Porsche down to the brink of bankruptcy, perhaps you have some ideas to pull GM out of it?? Might require you to give up your UAW membership, but that card is melting anyway. I assume by your interjection that you agree with lbthedawg and competing in the sports car / roadster category it's all about image, not substance? Forget my suggestion then, Even Heaven can't help GM.

By the time winter is over the buzz on the car will be long gone and I bet quite a few of those people waiting will have gotten their deposit back and moved on.

If somebody wants to go fast, they buy neither and go get a Mustang or used Vette. Forget the rest of the noise, this thread is just some way for the Miata bunch to try and make up some junk for getting so badly crushed in the image department. |

And better watch out because Porsche is throwing cash at VW which may turn into a huge money pit. Never say never about the auto industry because there seems to be another Toyota based recall today on the heels of a 1.2 million recall yesterday. Look the end is if a few disappointed Mazda cronies are looking for a way to trash the Solstice because their new model is such a dud, go do the trashing over on the Mazda thread. You really don't think you are going to get free shots every where. Not everybody on the Edmunds site is as biased as the "experts" that write for them. |

There is a huge gap here, I dare say you ask a hundred people which car has the edge in looks and well over 90% will give it to the Pontiac. And though some want to avoid it, this is significant because no matter how it is avoided, Pontiac has caught and passed so much of the competition the defenders of the competition have to resort to cliches and fairy tales. Yes a first year car is the leader in class over a car with a 15 year head start. And what slight weaknesses real, imagined or fabricated there are, they will be soon resolved with strengths in other areas. And what is more significant, the Saturn Sky is just around the corner. |
