In all fairness, it is usually tough to get parts for a first year vehicle, especialy with the rareness of the intercooler being unique to the Solstice. However, it does seems that he will have to wait a bit.

I had a customer who had boosted their Mazda3,and blew the engine. He had to wait 3 months to get the engine from Japan. But, I guess getting a whole engine is tougher to get then just an IC.

really is unfortunate, you can't get a part. I would find out what company made it and contact them directly. It might be a lot quicker to try to purchase it directly.

I bought a Miata (2007 PRHT) for an entirely different reason... I could not look out the window with the top up in the Sky/soltice without ducking my head... I loved the looks of the car, thought the top design was half baked and could not live w/o decent trunk space... once I saw the new 2007 PRHT MX-5... that was all she wrote. The trunk is the same top up or down and the top itself is a work of art.

while the mx-5 will never match the looks of the soltice... the driving dynamics and everyday livability more than makes up for it! now with 2500 miles on it I am more convinced everyday I made the right decision.

I agree, buying a car is a very personal decision. Thats why I had to forgo BOTH the Solstice and the Miata and get a Honda S 2000. All the looks and performance I wanted (certainly faster than the Miata and about par with the Redline) and a great price to boot at less than 30 K.

Like many of us, I deliberated long and hard before going with the S 2000 over the much slower Miata and the Red Line Sky. Its never easy when the cars are in the same approximate price range. The PRHT is a nice feature, although I still maintain that Mazda needs more power for the Miata. Power is not an issue with the Solstice/Sky, build quality and resale are for me. I guess it comes down to each his own!!

agree with the miata.....we own a base solstice..and are very happy with it....23K on it and 15 months old now....a few minor issues..but all taken care of by our dealer with no problems...as for resale......I dont worry about it since we keep cars on averagy 7-9 years and they have well over 100k on them by then..so resale value isnt an issue at that point.......we werent looking for a go fast car so to speak...just a two seater...to cruise in...its a third car for us anyway.......and the S2K was an old design....we wanted something fresh...and there was a 5k difference in the price between our sol and the S2K.....again..personal reasons for our choices......cheers

Interesting to see the perspective of someone who doesn't realize how bad Mazda's reliability record is. To the cars you're supposedly "trouncing", especially the Boxters, when they see a young girl driving her little convertible to junior college, you think they're thinking "race"? Drive a vanilla car, get vanilla responses. The novelty of your car sounds like the fact you're a male and you're driving a Miata - I think most people are too amused by that fact to race your econocar.

Just a thought...

Can you post a pic? I'd love to see an image of a guy behind the wheel of a Miata. Funny stuff!

Not replying to anyone in particular just following the thread sort of:

Consumer Reports acknowledged in it's recent issue that generally the difference between the best and worst in their rankings in not that great while some models that should be good are not (and they named some).

People buy cars based on what they read in magazines, brand loyalty (what dad drove or maybe their first car), and a combination of styling, performance, comfort, utility, economy, investment potential, psychological appeal, hobby, availability both physical and financial. Some cars eventually become very valuable and sought after because they are extremely old, extremely fast, extremely rare, extremely beautiful, who owned them or any combination of these qualities. These qualities in any combination can make a car unique. Personally, I think I would find myself in very good company with anyone who wants to own or already owns either car.
