Just an FYI. I have a two month old Soltice GXP. Ran up a little hard on a parking lot curb and lightly scraped the front fender. A 5 MPH accident The intercooler is damaged ($1100 estimate) and Pontiac has no intercoolers available for purchase anywhere in the United States!! All new parts are going to production. i.e. I can't get my new car repaired and there is no release date for the part. Could be a month. Could be a year. Ironically I bought the car in lieu of a restored TR6 because I thought the Triumpth would be hard to get parts for!
Needless to say nobody informed me when I bought the vehicle that no parts were available to repair it. GM has stuck it to their customers again! Their official position is..... all new parts go on new cars. Translation...you bought it, you paid for it, we don't care if you ever get it fixed.
I will never purchase another car from these SOB's the remainder of my life!

did anybody else read the above post? I am a Kia guy who's purchased two new Kia's in a row. I'm currently making plans to purchase a 2008 Mitsubushi Lancer. Reading the above it just makes me wonder if GM ever thinks down the road at all. To make a new car and not build replacement parts for it is just plain stupid.

steves5...I feel for you, man. GM is stupid. I don't know what the answer is for you...you might start contacting wrecking yards. Finding wrecked Pontiac Solstice's might be kind of rough though. Yikes.

Spending what we spend on new cars GM ought to be getting right on it and finding the parts for you right now.

Based on GM's track record this should come as no surprise to anyone...Welcome to the world of GM.

Steve, if a parts manager orders a part with the right code..stating that without the part the car is not driveable....the part is expedited..and in fact can be taken off production line if it isnt available through normal distribution...this again assumes the part manager is doing his job..and looking out for the customer..

I would ask the parts manager if in fact he has ordered the part correctly......I also assume here that you have the car at a dealership and not a body shop not affiliated with a dealership..that is another issue entirely.....check with a dealership parts manager......

In all fairness, it is usually tough to get parts for a first year vehicle, especialy with the rareness of the intercooler being unique to the Solstice. However, it does seems that he will have to wait a bit.

I had a customer who had boosted their Mazda3,and blew the engine. He had to wait 3 months to get the engine from Japan. But, I guess getting a whole engine is tougher to get then just an IC.

really is unfortunate, you can't get a part. I would find out what company made it and contact them directly. It might be a lot quicker to try to purchase it directly.

I bought a Miata (2007 PRHT) for an entirely different reason... I could not look out the window with the top up in the Sky/soltice without ducking my head... I loved the looks of the car, thought the top design was half baked and could not live w/o decent trunk space... once I saw the new 2007 PRHT MX-5... that was all she wrote. The trunk is the same top up or down and the top itself is a work of art.

while the mx-5 will never match the looks of the soltice... the driving dynamics and everyday livability more than makes up for it! now with 2500 miles on it I am more convinced everyday I made the right decision.

I agree, buying a car is a very personal decision. Thats why I had to forgo BOTH the Solstice and the Miata and get a Honda S 2000. All the looks and performance I wanted (certainly faster than the Miata and about par with the Redline) and a great price to boot at less than 30 K.
