Hi all, I currently own an MX-5 Miata and I would like to share this story with you..
Purchase date oct 15th. 1st problem, oct 16th. ..
to date my car has been to the dealer for the following...
Vacuum pressure problems in Fuel tank - 6 times, Airbag sensor switch under seat 3 or 4 times, rear drivers shock leaking all of it's oil - 1 time, dipstick breaking off into the engine somehow - 1 time. I filed under the lemon law and after 9 weeks of constant calls and a lot of waiting I was told they'd replace the car but I'd have to pay another $2,200 because of mileage. I explained that I didn't want the car after the 1st week. I had 5 problems in the 1st 7 days... ... This car has been nothing but a headache. I found out today that I will not get the full purchase price so I told them I just wanted a check and I won't ever buy a Mazda. They didn't really care.. i guess they make enough money... Well, while out looking at other cars the dealer asked what that noise is coming from my car.. it's an exhaust leak.. so.... now I have to take the car back to the dealer one last time.
Point is.. Don't buy one.. if you have a problem MazdaUSA won't take care of you.

Well said Mighty, thus the reason I bought the Honda S2000; Much superior car in all aspects, handling, POWER (smoke the Mazda Speeds all the time), looks and reliability. Quite simply a better car. I'd even trade that MX-5 for a SKY or a Solstice (get the Red Line edition) and MX-5s will be a glimmer in your rear view.

I would not call the S2000 a more reliable car. The MX-5 has an excellent reliability record, and reported the fewest problems out of any vehicle for 2004-2005.

Yes, it is faster, however, the MX-5 is a true roadster, where the S2000 is more of a high performance vehicle, with a much higher price tag.

It all depends on what you are looking for in a vehicle.

I would hardly call the Solstice or Sky a reliable vehicle, they are unproven, and their respective companies are not known for reliability.

Oh Please AviBoy, the 2000 is a TRUE Roadster and yes, it'll smoke any Miata I know. As for price, I paid 29K for a fully loaded 2006 (list was 34K). How can you say that it has a much higher price tag. The Honda is also very reliable. In addition, the Solstice and Sky are too new for reliability factors to be determined. I still view the Sky Red Line as a great alternative to the Miata for about 27 K. Its a very nice car. In my opinion, the Miata still carries the moniker of a "chicks car" and has been unable to shake that for years.

OK, you paid 29K and it had a list of 34K. The MX-5 GT has a tag of $24,995 and can be had now, at the end of the year, for close to $23K. So, yes, big price difference. Almost $10K from list to list, and $6K in actual price. I guess you do not consider $10K-$6K much money....

The Honda is also very reliable

Please, only debate what I actually said. I NEVER said Honda was not reliable. I said the MX-5 was the MOST reliable out of ANY vehicle for 2004-2005 according to CR.

I still view the Sky Red Line as a great alternative to the Miata for about 27 K. Its a very nice car.

Great, good for you! It is an alternative to the MX-5, and it's about time there FINALLY was one. Competition improves the breed. Look at long term road tests by many magazines, many state their discontent with how the Sol starts to rattle, engine sounds like it is straining.

Still, Saturn and Pontiac as companies have sub-par reliability records.

I would not be surprised to see the next Mazdaspeed MX-5 fitted with the MZR 2.3 DISI Turbo, producing 274hp and 280ft lbs. Or, at least a variation of that engine. I do not think your S2000 would smoke that...

In my opinion, the Miata still carries the moniker of a "chicks car" and has been unable to shake that for years.

It also caries the best selling roadster, EVER, Car and Driver "10 Best" for 2 seater roadsters for 2006, as well as excellent reliability, and "Recommended Buy" for over 15 years on top of countless awards won world wide. I do not see the MX-5 "shaking" any of those credidentials any time soon.

Just for arguement sake:

2006 YTD S2000 sales: 4,288
2006 YTD MX-5 sales: 11,107
