I am a dealer. We placed our first allocation almost two weeks ago. Trust me, it's comming. Audia8q can attest to that.

Go to your local Mazda dealer and ask to speak to who places the allocations. They will tell you.

TRUE!!! I also am a Mazda dealer, in Fort Worth,Tx.

I just placed my first allocation order for 2 2007 MX-5 RHT(Retractable Hard Top)yesterday.

1 Stormy Blue with Saddle RHT GT/6 Speed with Premium Package and 1 Copper Red with Saddle RHT GT/Auto.

The Copper Red which I ordered has already been pre-sold as of last week...even without pricing being released yet.

This will be one of the slickest retractable hard tops ever engineered with a down time of about 13 seconds.

It takes up no trunk space when down since it sits in its own well.

Just to quench your curiousity I copied and pasted this directly from my internal Mazda system(not allowed to divulge any more than this at this time):

2007 MAZDA MX-5

Product Information Bulletin

May 18, 2006

Last year the newly redesigned MX-5 won the prestigious Japan Car of the Year award as well as being named a Car and Driver 10 best car. Mazda is pleased to announce that for the 2007 model year we are adding a groundbreaking power retractable hard top to the lineup. The power retractable hard top will be the most affordable retractable hard top in the industry in addition to being the only one which does not take up any trunk space. Additionally we expect the open and close time to be class leading. This feature will surely bring in many new customers.

And I heard it hear first!
Thanks for the info. Looks like I'll be waiting a few months to buy a new car. The internet has been full of rumors - from a manual hard top, only 10 lbs added weight, to a display model at the Brisbane Auto Show a few months ago (no photos available of course).
This is the first hard evidence I have seen. Talk about improving on perfection....
My 2 cents on the Solstice/Mx-5 debate - they are both beautiful cars. Solstice is certainly "meaner" looking, but I feel it suffers in interior finish. The Mx-5 is a little "girlie" but seems more finished and user friendly. I think you could make good arguments to buy either of them (which is reflected in the sales figures). For me, I was sold by trunk space and ease of the roof on the mazda

yup....very common. In many cases we don't know what the colors will look like or the options. The first allocations are usually a little vague. In most cases we don't see prices until the car is about to arrive.

Premium Price for MX-5 Hardtop Option by manybmws

From Leftlane News:
In November, we reported that the next Mazda MX-5 would get a folding hardtop roof as an optional feature over the standard canvas top. According to an AutoWeek report at the time, the improved roof would add $2,000 to $3,000 to the MX-5’s sticker price. This week, Germany’s AutoBild magazine published an artist’s rendering of the new MX-5 hardtop. The accompanying report indicates that the car will debut at the British Motor Show in July (20th-31st).

Click on this link to see what the new hardtop might look like according to AutoBild

I see AutoWeek is speculating $2-3K more then the current MX-5. Could be. If this car debuts at the British Auto Show, pricing will probably follow in about a month or so.

I like the artists version of what it may look like. He added the RX-8 rims, and looks like the RX-8 nose as well. The top may very well look like that.

We have the Mazdaspeed3 on the way, and we have known about that car for quite sometime, and still no pricing announced yet. I have also placed my first allocation for that vehicle as well.
