A lot of cars appear to have the same properties and appeal to different buyers.   Yes, they do, however, the manufacturer sets what demographic they are targeting. GM and Mazda have the same customer targeted for the Solstice and MX-5. If someone outside their "set demographic" purchases their car, it's no big deal, and proves nothing, it's just another customer.   My point from the beginning has been that the manufacturer sets it targeted demographic.   People buy cars that they were not targeted for, it happens all the time.   I don't see what point you are trying to make, if any. I am open to all opinions. Read any thread I have been in.   The demographic bit is not an opinion, that is something set by a manufacturer, or a fact.   If you have an opinion on the Solstice, or MX-5, I will either agree or disagree if I feel like replying. It's too numb and too heavy to be of interest as a sports car. It is nice looking, of course, but it sounds like a tractor and has a very poor interior (cheap-looking and no storage for small items).   I am sure that the Solstice and Sky will please GM fans (who aren't a very demanding group by and large)but anyone looking for driving pleasure will choose the Miata.   For those who want a pretty toy to putt around suburbia to get ice cream on the weekend the Solstice will be enough.   The Miata will be available long after the Solstice has gone the way of the Fiero.   Bet your bottom dollar, there will be no second generation Solstice/Sky.   And don't get me wrong, even though the Solstice was a disappontment, it is far, far better than it might have been...it's just not good enough.

Or go test drive a Solstice now and put any lingering doubts to rest forever, there are plenty of Solstices on dealer lots for the walk-in customer now (in the Los Angeles are anyway).   BTW, I just bought a used 2001 Miata; British Racing Green SE. It has a tan top, tan leather seats and a Nardi wooden steering wheel. I used to have a white 2002 Miata. But this color combination (which is similar to yours) has always been my personal favorite. The poor girl had a front license plate hidding its fender grid. A while later, I met a police car and the driver obviously looked at my own front (where the license plate is missing). I told myself: there you go, you won't escape your fate for long... But I guess he was just cruising along the coast on this beautiful Sunday morning, as I did not see him again. To comment on the color scheme: I was looking for something classy (British racing kind of classy, I guess). I figured that the bright red or beaten gray look would look old pretty quick. Apparently Mazda dropped this color in the 2007 release, replacing it by yet another green. I am not sure what this looks like. But Nordic Green is really nice.

Mazda's May sales increase was led in volume by its popular MAZDA3, which reported sales of 11,662 units despite a continuing lack of inventory resulting in only a 30-day supply. The MX-5 Miata posted its best May since 2001 with sales of 1,829 units and was also inventory constrained. The innovative MAZDA5 multi-activity vehicle continues to create a new market segment, with sales for the month of 1,485 and for the year of 7,806.
