Sounds like you have a faulty one...the sensor on mine works just fine...take it to your dealer.

I was able to get 16 mpg on a mostly highway trip in my Denali, but around town I get a lot closer to 10.5 mpg. 11.5 mpg if I baby it. I'm using 87 octane, not the premium fuel...although the fuel door says premium only, everything seems okay with 87 octane. I've read several articles on the Internet that claim using premium fuel is like throwing money away. Any thoughts?

According to ABC news, about 40% of the time you select high test you don't really get high test. Stations routinely run medium or low test through the high test pumps.
Out West, premium is only 91 octane whereas out East, premium is 93 octane. Current vehicles have the ability to adjust their timing to cope with varying octane ratings from a low of 87 to a high of 93+.

If the door say premium, why would you run 87? To save a few bucks?

While your knock sensors "should" take care of any knock a good question would be if there ever is some damage due to knock would it be covered under warranty. I'm sure a GM dealer would use it as an opportunity to deny warranty coverage as skytop1 would probably agree.

A nickle here and a dime saved there might cost you more in the long run. Course as always the choice is yours.

Thanks for all of the replies on the backup sensor. I know that the sound can be turned off. The problem is that the sound only goes off once; when an obstacle is first detected. After that one sound, there are no more sounds made as you get closer, only an increasing number of amber lights in the back window. Since you must be looking rearward to see the lights, you cannot look to the right and left to see your mirrors. It should be a constant audible warning. I may replace this with an after market and send the factory one to Chevy in Detroit (Collect!!!)

The system in my truck works just as the sales guy explained to me in the showroom, it is always good to get a full understanding of what you are buying before you pay for it. Sure it takes a little trial and error to get the full benefit of the system and also understand its limitations. As the manual states, any object lower than 10 inches will fall outside it's ability to sense. It is important that we all read and put to use some good practice before criticizing something we do not fully understand. I think this forum and certainly SOME particular individuals (not you) are using this forum with an alternative objective, one that does not serve any of us here looking to learn about the new Silverado. That is unfortunate, and tiresome. It is amazing that one particular (possible) owner of the GMT 900 platform has experienced every incomprehensible failure one could dream of, including the unlatching of the hood with his foot going 65 mph. His steering column swings back and forth and he cannot see out the front window as the A-pillar is too wide, and on and on and on. Is it just me that is a little more than curious about the validity of the mole in the room working for say, a Japanese competitor? My doubt's are exceedingly high. Unfortunate, because this is a nice forum for sharing information, which leaves it open to abuse.

Well Stated Schlog!!!! your I pretty much said the same thing about a month ago and almost got booted from this site.

...........On to my '07 Silverado

Problems I ham currently experiencing are;

1. Drivers side airbag produced a malfunction message.
2. Front passenger side wheel sometimes produces a low air message, but there is no air leak of any sort.

Both issues are being addressed this saturday under warranty coverage. Otherwise This truck has had a new AEM brute air intake added, fantastic responsivness. Line-X spray bedliner, still working on deciding which brand locking bedcover to acquire. I am also looking to install new stepbars - Im tending to like the GM accessory on that decision, just searching for a decent nondealer price break.

Just came back from a 7 1/2 hour nonstop trip from KY to MD, and this truck was simply powerful, from uphill shifting (4 shift is smooth and even) to down hill solid braking. Extrmely impressed with how this truck handles. Also the interior is always spacious and comfortable (LTZ) (no leg cramps) although my wife putting her feet up to the right hand corner of the window/door jamb inadvertantly tripped the heated seats button on the door manifested a funny scene to behold.

No complaints so far!

Clawz, thanks for understanding my point. I would like to think that this website is a benefit to us owners and not a place to spew agendas that benefit no one here.

I'd appreciate you keeping me posted as to what they find with your driver airbag, I'm guessing that it is the locking tab that holds the plug into the firing squib on the backside of the airbag module causing intermittent connectivity. Once the plug falls out of the squib (1/8" out)a shorting clip falls across the firing posts and creates a short circuit thus rendering the firing circuit dead. Please keep me posted as to what you find out.

As for running boards.... man I spent countless hours trying to find one that looked like the GM offerings, after deciding I wasn't giving up that much loot, decided to purchase a set of Aries straight oval tubes from Ultimate Auto Accessories. I wasn't sure at first if I was going to be happy with them but now I can honestly say they look good on the truck. Also, they are placed in the correct position that they are actually useful for climbing in and out. Previous curved step tubes I've owned never seemed to be placed in a beneficial position that your foot dropped to while stepping out. You may want to take a look, I paid $325 delivered.

I too have Rhino Lined the bed and installed a Fold-A-Cover which locks fore and aft - which is great for long trips with lots of luggage.

To date we've put 7600 miles on the truck and absolutely are in awe of the power of the motor (5.3) and silky smoothness of the transmission, often pulling a 4000 pound camper. We went last month to the Smoky Mountains, a round trip of almost 3000 miles and averaged 16.7 mpg! I was floored as our last truck guzzled the stuff pulling the same camper at 11-12 mpg. I've owned GM trucks for 23+ years in some form or another and have had a very good run with them. That is why I'm compelled to tell my story when given the opportunity, and no one is paying me to say that. The only one I never cared for was a 1985 S-10 stripped down 4 cylinder which had absolutely no frills and no power.
It's all good!

Are those the original headlights? I wish you could get the Avalanche/Tahoe Grill & Headlight set up on the pickup. I think that would make an awesome looking truck. Wonder if they can be swapped out? Good looking truck.

Schlog: Since you apparently have a stunning sense of cynicism and humor, as well as a strong non believing non trusting personality, I will tell you that after going to three dealerships with my steering column bearing defect, one dealer finally did replace it. Yes, one service manager finally had the decency and responsiveness to see how seriously bad the column bearing was functioning. It is now replaced with a complete new unit (parts and sub assemblies are not available) and is quite solid. However, the sloppy work the dealer performed during this service resulted in the dealership returning my vehicle with the steering wheel being about 10 degrees off center. Thanks for the professional grade service, GMC!

I had to waste yet another day going back to the dealership to REPAIR The REPAIR. Yes, this is what happens at the GMC dealerships these days. There is simply no excuse for these kind of screwups and customer abuses.
Don't bother replying because you've already made your incredulous acrimonious position quite clear to everyone reading these boards.
