Replying to: rockylee (Jan 16, 2007 9:53 pm) I actually saw a couple test mules in AZ while I was there for Christmas. Ex-Cab models of both the Sierra and the Silverado.   Pretty imposing beasts. The grill on the GMC was like a huge gaping mouth ready to swallow you whole. Not that they were bad mind you... just big and imposing, a looking ready to do what they need to do. Tow and haul.

Replying to: bobberino (Dec 28, 2006 7:58 pm) I too was concerned about the 80's problem with the 8/4 cylinder effort. I posed this question to the local GM service manager and was advised the old problem with that system was oil was not being distributed to the cylinders properly when 4 cylinders shut down. The new system is totally redesigned and is warranted for 100,000 miles.   Regarding the 4.8 versus the 5.3 with fuel management. I had an 05 Silverado with the 4.8 and had all the power I needed. Average gas mileage was 17.5. Now I have the 2007 Silverado with 5.3 and fuel management (2,000 miles) and have an average MPG of 14.5. You do the math. I drive alot of highway miles and do not pull anything. Replying to: rockylee (Jan 22, 2007 10:29 pm) Local Dealer says gas mileage should improve at 5,000 to 7500 miles. Yes, at cruise when on a level ground, the system shuts down to 4 cylinders. Replying to: dagolfer (Jan 23, 2007 9:20 am) Yeah the DOD system I heard is quite sensitive. I'd like to see GM improve the sensitivity of this system.
