Replying to: 73shark (May 30, 2007 5:41 pm) I tried the tow mode thing, seems very interesting... only really makes a difference between like 30 and 50mph. My Tahoe was even in V4 on slight hills. However, I think it uses more gas during start up so where I live its not practical with all the lights and stops. Finally.. I got to try E-85 Ethanol... A local dealer here in up-state New York now has it in 2 stations.. One in Albany and the other in Lake George. The gas hose is colored in Yellow and has all these warnings about putting Ethanol in a regular gas vehicle.. The owner came running out when he saw me start to use the pump screaming it was not for use in a regular gasoline car.. I then pointed to the "Flexfuel" badge on the back hatch and he smiled.. The cost was $2.59 a gallon. Not bad as regular here is up to $3.39 a gallon. I put in about 16 gallons.. I then took a 200 mile trip.. I noticed my overall mileage was down a bit (17.5 vs 19.2 MPG) but the car ran great. So.. I'm gonna keep using it for a while. Any others out there use E-85 yet?? By the way, I now have 31,765 miles on my '07 which will be one year old on June 30th. Replying to: gfraigun (May 30, 2007 8:21 pm) What's happening when you go to tow mode is it takes it out of OD which puts the engine in a higher rpm band (approx. where it would be w/ 4.10 gears). It also changes shift points but that doesn't affect V4 mode. You can't duplicate this by just putting it in Drive because that inhibits V4. Replies to this message: gfraigun (Jun 04, 2007 9:12 pm)

Replying to: 73shark (Jun 04, 2007 7:22 pm) Yes, I understand that about the V4/Tow mode that it switches the shift point and puts the engine in a higher RPM. However, I've been playing with it, and on a steady speed drive with slight uphills the Tahoe will stay in V4 mode even on the uphills and I've noticed a slightly higher mpg when doing this vs. letting it stay in V8 mode with no tow mode on. Is it something I'm going to do by habit, no, not in the San Fernando Valley, just too much stop and go traffic.

I also live in up-state NY (Guilderland) and my 07 Tahoe only has 18K on the clock. My BEST tank on Reg Gas was 17.9 with an average of 15.4 I just returned from a trip to NC,1900 miles, best tank, 16.4, worst tank 14.2 again on Reg gas, we won’t talk about the numbers when running E-85, as they are to depressing. I have an open case with GM, actually the Tahoe goes in for service next week, they are going to change several sensors and the body control module. The service manager drove it for a week with similar results, so we both are convinced it is not driver related. Are you running 3:73’s or 4:10’s ? It looks like E85 is about 15-20% less expensive than gasoline, so I'd need to see about 13 mpg in mixed driving to break even. Looking forward to trying it out sometime soon.
