I forgot to ask for a sale price. If i am able to get the monthly payment down to $300, will that be a good deal?
Thank you.

Well, leases that have a sale price around I thiink..$22k or so, usually have a payment of around $300, for instants my payment are $319 including tax and my sale price was around that mark. I have had 2 leases now, and have had pretty much the same payment. Your not too far off at all, but I do think you could see how good your sale price is. Your pretty much on target, but if you can pull a bit harder, than I think you could do slightly better.

Check it all out here on Edmunds, look up new car prices, sale and invoice prices for the car.

I think your on to a good deal though.

Let us know.

Was offered a 2009 Black Jetta S - California Edition.

$169/month
$3k down
54% Residual value

Any thoughts would be appreciated! Good deal? Bad Deal?

Thanks...

Frankly for that kind of money, why not upgrade to the SE? Offers great bang for the buck, I big step up. Not saying the S model is not, but SE offers many features and honestly not much more... $3k is a lot of money to put down as well...
Save that money... roll it later if you need help making the payments. Now is not the time for anyone to be putting that much down on a car, if you decide to take a loan on the car, and keep it for years, than that would be better.

For every $1k=$20-30 off your payments or added back.

What was your sale price for the S model? That will tell you if they are working for you or against you.

Thanks bvdj84.

To clarify-It's automatic, not a manual, so it's a little pricier. Since it's a California edition, it also includes Bluetooth, spoiler, alloy wheels and Ipod Adapter. My sale price is $19,815.

I'm actually leasing here in California because I'll be here exactly three years and don't want to have to pay to ship a car back to New York (where I'm from). I want the barebones Jetta and pay the minimum I can for the 3 years and then give it back. 0% chance of me keeping the car. I can also pay it all up front if that made sense economically. Will ask for the regular S edition and not the California edition if it can save me money.

I see, Well then you are still getting an amazing car! You will have fun!
I wouldn't pay for it all up front. I just wouldn't wrap a bunch of money in a car.

But, the sale price seems nice! Go for it!

wolfy lease terms by jettasquire

leased an 09 wolfsburg a couple weeks ago. not many of these left, i guess they only make 12k per year, and hard to locate.

anyhow, here are my terms

36 month lease
12k miles/yr
$0
$595 due at signing (1st months pmt plus license fee)
6MT, monstor mats/cargo liner
$287/mth (includes tax).

IMO this was a very good deal. lease pmts was based on $20,799 base cap cost; MSRP was $22,xxx. Residual value at term end is $12,234

I think anyone looking at an SE or SEL should be able to arrive at a similar price, based on similar MSRP

Most folks who get fleeced wtih a payment in the mid to low 300's a month is due to their shopping for similar "sport" compacts, which are usually leasing in the mid 300's, so the uninformed feels that the wolfsburg lease rate in the low/mid 300's is in the "ballpark".

Also looked at a 2009 civic SI, which i got down to the same price (~$275/mth nothing down).

I am quite impressed with the car - feels very solid, the 2.0T is a GREAT motor. My leasing philosophy in the past, which has always treated me well, is to ID the amount you want to pay each month (nothing down), and find the most car for that price range.

There is really nothing out there that provides, IMO, a comparable deal given the motor in the jetta wolfsburg, with v-tex (not too bad a surface), heated seats, sunroof, decent stereo.

I was also considering a suby legacy SE, mazda 3/6; nothing matched the driving dynamics of the VW per dollar.

Mind you i am coming out of a 4 year lease on a saab 9-3 2.0T manual. This car was a blast to drive, but actually i think the VW has a more sporty feel. Sure, the VW has a few less creature comforts that were nice (auto off lights, auto AC, etc), but for $113 less a month, i'm pretty happy!

good luck

Hi jettasquire,

Thanks for providing us with the numbers. I think you got an excellent deal. Would you mind sharing the money factor and the payment before taxes? Also, if you still have the numbers for the Si around, I'd like to take a look at them as well.

Thanks.
