Actually, i just kind of ran your numbers assuming about 8% tax (highest rate i know of in states) and it appears you are paying MSRP final sales price. That's no good. The invoice on a '09 SEL with MSRP of 22,790 is $21559 according to edmunds so you should be paying somewhere in that neighborhood and calculating the lease from that sale price.

Ok this sounds stupid, but I think the $23,769 is the final price. The sales tax is 9.25%. The first offer the dealer made based on this price was $439 and I called him out on it. Told him I had another dealer offer $389, he matched it. Then I had another dealer offer the $369 and again he matched it. I've been dealing straight through email and I have to go back and piece the emails together. I kinda feel like I could push a little more, but I'm not sure where the breaking point truly would be...Does that make any sense?

Ok, well the final price you are quoting is MSRP. When negotiating on a lease you should always start by negotiating on the price of the car as if it was a purchase. So let's say invoice is $21559, but with your options perhaps the invoice price is near $22,500. If you change the sale price nearer to invoice and run the calculations the lease price/mth drops to $340/mth. Here are the calculations below, you kind of go through the whole math process from top to bottom to find the end monthly price.

MSRP - $23,769
Residual value - 60% = 14,261
Money Factor = .00273
Capatilized Cost (final sale price) = $22,500 (let's assume you negotiate to near invoice at $22,500)
Cost over life of lease (final sale price - residual value) = $8239
Divided by 39 months = $211.25/month
Lease cost (APR/Money factor) this is MSRP plus residual value multiplied by money factor = $101.03/month
Brings lease cost to $312.28/month
Factor in taxes of 9.25% ($312.28 * 1.0925)
Total price $340.38/mth

Hope this helps.

60 Month Buy Rate for Jetta by macrodarden

Do we have any dealers on board here who know what the buy rate is for a 60 month purchase of a 09 Jetta through VW Financial?
I know the program rates but I don't want to get taken to the cleaners if I can negotiate the rate down .5-1%. I don't mind the salesman making some cash off of me, I just hate paying for back end proffit when they do nothing to earn it.
Thanks for your help.

It's not as simple as cascadejim makes it out to be since you are trading in a lease. We would also have to know what your buyout is on lease vs real world trade-in value. The dealer could be taking a loss on your lease if you got a bad deal on your last lease. He is also off a few dollars on his calculations. It would be more like $344.

PS: 6.5% money factor for a lease is ridiculously high. I would buy it. You could probably get a loan for $22,500 6 years for $370 a month. Buyout after 3 years would be about $12,000. Trade-in value, assuming you took care of it, would be at least $13,000 maybe more. With your situation of trading in another lease it does get complicated.

Also, where do you live? 9.25% taxes!!! I would like to know so I will not unknowingly move there.

Sounds like Washington state... or Pennsylvania (which hits leases for an extra 3%).

The buyout on my lease right now is just over $12k (that is including the 3 payments I have left). It is a 2005 CRV EX, good condition, just your typical wear and tear. Just hit 40k miles this month. My payments are $377 inc tax.

The dealer that offered the original deal in this thread, pissed me off, and I walked away.
I now have another dealer that I have recently started talking with. I asked about prices on 2008/2009 Jetta SEL. Of course he is pushing towards the 2009. He has also suggested the Wolfsburg edition, but I really don't know the specifics on that car. It sounds more powerful than the SEL and seems like it might have a few more bells and whistles, but shows about $1500 less than the SEL....Soo..What's the catch?
Does it require premium gas?

I really appreciate all the advice!

Thanks.

Hi macrodarden. VW Credit is currently offering 3.9% financing for 3 years, 4.9% for 4 years, and 5.9% for 5 years on the 2009 Jetta. This is the lowest that dealers can offer on this car. They aren't making money other than a small flat fee and whatever gross they make on your car for signing you up at these rates.
