I have a family member that currently works for GM. I've been told that I can take advantage of the employee pricing. First, what procedures are necessary to take advantage of the program? Second, what kind of discount can I expect? The MSRP is about $38,165.00. I'm looking for a 24-36 month lease with no money down and this is in the Chicago market with a tax percentage of 7.5%. Do I got to the dealer, negotiate the price, and then tell them I have employee pricing? Or, do I let them know this up front? Please help. Thanks for your help. Replying to: avguru (Dec 04, 2006 10:25 am) Your family member needs to go online and get you a GM employee purchase number from the employee website. You cannot do this yourself unless your family member gives you access information to log onto the site. You just tell them the employee pricing up front. You don't need your GM employee purchase number until you seal the deal. The discount gets you a little over 3K off of the base car plus around 20-25% off any options. Last I checked you were also eligible for another 1000 off as an incentive exclusive to GM employee discount eligible people, but I am not sure if that was continued into December. (I just bought a Saab in November with the discount and got the 1000). Keep in mind that if you live in the city of Chicago, they impose an additional lease tax of something like 6% of your payments. Also keep in mind that under the insane Illinois laws you pay tax on the full purchase price of the car, even though you are only leasing it. (unlike some more fair states such as Michigan where you only pay taxes on the difference between the sale price and the residual value, which only makes sense). I am not sure if it's really much, if any, more off than a knowledgeable person could get off MSRP in some circumstances. But it's good regardless of time of year, supply, etc which negotiated discounts are not. Replying to: sidv (Dec 05, 2006 2:28 pm) Witholding the fact that you are GMS eligible would be a total waste of your time as well as your sales rep.The General Motors price is roughly 4% below dealer invoice and is printed right on the invoice.Dealers CANNOT go below this price.They also MUST pass on to you all available dealer incentives and customer rebates.This is an audited program and any dealer who varies from it is in jeopardy of losing his participation.Bottom Line is ...there is no negotiation involved and you cannot conceivably do better price-wise

Replying to: sterki (Dec 11, 2006 4:22 pm) Those quotes seem a little high to me, you probably have a bit more room to negotiate. They are certainly not terrible so I wouldn't expect much more off I don't think. As long as your residual is about 66% and your rate in the mid threes I think you are getting a pretty standard deal. Also, you did not say what the negotiated price of the car was, if you can get that number you can compare to Emunds TMV or similar for another point of comparison.
