Nissan played it right by not having any 08 muranos to put pressure on inventory issues and subsequent discounts. They can cut production and wait it out til the 2010 models start being assembled. My guess is that they will be very careful not to oversupply dealers at that point so dealing will be tougher. Having said that, there are a load of high priced LE's on the lots that will not be all gone by next fall. The prices on those could drop but the net price will still in the 30-33 price range. Still a steep buy for most folks in that market. If the Infinity FX crowd decides to look at this model [not likely -- less prestige but similar vehicle] they could that could result in lower inventories.
Really love the murano. And Car_man, you can be sure that in three years I will make every effort to squeeze that money factor to test the market. Of course, who knows what the market will be in three years.

Good question, jayrider. Banks set vehicles' buy rate lease money factors. Dealers can not charge less than these buy rates, however they are sometimes allowed to "mark-up" vehicles' money factors to add additional hidden, back-end profit to deals. This sort of thing is much more likely to happen at a BMW dealer than it is at a Nissan dealer, but it doesn't hurt to confirm the money factor that you are being charged is the buy rate.

Hi tonyk. The Murano's residual values certainly won't improve in the future. Vehicles' residual values gradually fall as the model year progresses. It is difficult to say whether Nissan's December lease program will be better than, the same as, or worse than its current one. If I had to make an educated guess, I personally would say that it will probably at least be the same, and possibly better. I certainly wouldn't waste a lease payment by turning in my current car a month early to get a Murano in November if I was in your situation.

Hi ngordon. I haven't crunched the numbers for all of the Murano's competitors, but of the ones that you mentioned I suspect that the Highlander is a better deal than it and the Edge probably is as well. If I was in the market for a mid-size SUV, I would go with the Highlander. It just seems like the best bang for the buck right now.

But better deal or not, Car_man, those highlanders are too conservative for me. All squared off and all --slab sided. Reminds me of a pumped jeep liberty[which I have 03 with 23k. Runs like a swiss watch.

Hope you don't mind me jumping in one last time. But I'd like to say that before my new Murano I had leased Highlanders twice. They are great cars. But they lack the bells and whistles, that to me justify the price of the Murano. I have just finished a lease on a 2006 V6 AWD Highlander w/ sunroof. I started to talk to them about another one and just to get the Sport version I was already in the 440's. Granted I never really started to negotiate over it but comparatively the Limited version would be more. Thanks again to car man and all the other posters.

The highlander will probably be on my short list when I turn 70 in 8 years. Right now I need a little more flash outside the pan to compliment my medications[rx only].

I have to agree about Highlander. Nice vehicle...if you run out of Zanex. Murano has a few more bells and whistles for the $$ & more stylin' by a long shot. Made my Nov. payment so now I wait until December program. The news is bad, more cars stacking up at the ports in LA & Newark, economy tanking, rates going lower...All things pointing in the buyers' favor, so I'll think we'll see better deals.
Then again, I predicted an up stock market for 08.
