kyfdx - After looking at the lease calcs above, please take a look at the following deal. I'm new to auto leasing. I'd love to have a new X3.

QUESTION#1 On 12/31/06 I went to a dealership and locked in the 12/06 terms; which the sales rep told me was 3.6% interest (which is .0015 MF) and 78% RV (which is higher than the 75% you quoted).
Using this:
MSRP $43770 (prem, xenons, hted seats, prem sound, auto, white, leather)
Discounted price $41993 (-1777)
$2500 down
 (1245 cash +7% tax or 87, 427 first mo pymt, 399 dealer fee, 42 for tax/title, 300 refundable security dep)
Cap cost $41993-1245-427=$40321
12K miles 24 mo - sales person quoted me $427/month b4 tax

Using your RV above, I calc
24 Mo/15K miles wholesale RV of 75% of MSRP 43770 or 32,828
Calc pymt before tax $421 >> but for a 15k/year lease!

So, I could ask for a payment of $421 for 15k/24 mon lease and be reasonable.

QUESTION32 And, could also ask for a deeper reduction off the MSRP -
from 43770 - 2500 = Sales Price 41270.
MSRP $43770 (prem, xenons, hted seats, prem sound, auto)
Discounted price $41270 (-2500)
$2500 down (1245 cash +7% tax or 87, 427 first mo pymt, 399 dealer fee, 42, tax/title, 300 refundable security dep)
Cap cost $41270-1245-427=$39,598
15K miles 24 mo $39,598 75% RV 32,838 mo pymt $390 b4 tax

QUESTION#3 - I asked about the prestated purchase price at the end of the lease to buy the car, Here were the quotes U was given on a 24 mon/12K miles lease - #33,587 (pretax). This is 80% if the MSRP of $41993 sale price. In the 24 month lease I paid down to a 75% RV. Now to own it they are uplifting it another 5% to make money off me. Question can this price be negotiated? It seems to be an area to save if you plan to purchase the car after it goes off lease. Seems like you could end up paying more then if you had just bought the car outright without a lease.

QUESTION#4 - is it better do do a 24 or 36 mon lease?

thank you for your help. There is a car landing in port tomorrow that has what I want on it!! Thanks ChowGirl

1) Not sure why you are subtracting the $427 1st payment from the cap cost.. Using 77% residual for 2yr/24K, I get $406/mo.+ tax... Using 75% residual for 2yr/30K, I get $441/mo.+ tax. I wouldn't take these numbers as gospel from the dealer. $300 security deposit? Your deposit is your payment rounded up to the next $50 increment. One thing not accounted for? $625 acquisition fee.. Where is this getting paid? You need to ask for the net cap cost, and ask what is added and subtracted to arrive at that number.

2) With a $400 dealer fee (pure profit), I would certainly ask for more off.

3) Residual is always a percentage of MSRP.. 77% of $43,770 is $33702.90

4) It is pretty close, either way... Probably a little cheaper for the 36 month lease... If you get a good monthly price, why not lease it for longer? Still under warranty and free maintenance..

I'll work out some more specifics after the game..

I want it to look like this.. at worst.

$43770 MSRP
$42000 Selling price (including dealer fee)
$42625 Cap cost (selling price + $625 acq.fee)
MF = .0015
Residual = 77% for 24mo./24K lease
Payment = $460/mo.+ 7% tax = $492/mo.
Due at signing = 1st payment ($492), security deposit ($500), tax/title ($42) = Total $1034 (keep that extra money in your pocket).

2yr/30K = $530/mo. with $1122 upfront

3yr/36K lease is same price as 2yr/24K = $492/mo.

3yr/45K lease is $515/mo.

If you insist on paying $2500 total upfront, the payments will drop around $60/mo. on the 24 month leases, and about $40/mo. on the 36 month leases..

Hope this helps,
kyfdx

My proposed X3 deal by jsf99

I also "locked in" the december x3 lease program. I am now being offered the following deal, which seems Ok, although I believe could be better: MSRP=42,295; SP=40,575; MF= .0015: Res=65%; Cap cost= 41,200(inc acq fee); Initial payment=2,531(inc. 1st, sec deposit, fees, ny sales tax); Terms= 483.82/month, 36months, 15k/year. Any thoughts on this deal? Can anyone tell me if at least the calculation appears correct? Thanks.

All of the sales tax paid upfront?

If so, it is exact to the penny. Looks good.

Thanks--yes, all of the sales tax is upfront. I suppose that I may attempt to negotiate the sales price further, to reduce the monthly outlay. My goal was $450/month, but that may not be realistic.

You are off to a good start... Base MF and base acquisition fee.. Plus, the numbers match what the dealer gave you..

Most BMW dealers routinely mark up both of those items.. There might be another $500-$800 to work with there, but don't hold your breath...

You're right--the dealer shaved another $200 off the selling price(ie, about $6/month), but said that's it--take it or leave it. So, I need to decide whether to do this deal. Given that the present lease program is not as favorable--and may not be for some time--I'll probably pull the trigger on this one.
