Thanks Car man,
When I was at the dealer, I was the given the impression that "some" type of down payment, i.e cap cost reduction was "required". Granted it was just the preliminary discussions, and I am in a small city in central VA where there is no other dealer for 75 miles, but that seemed a bit presumptuous. I'm certainly going to shop around, but it's nice to get a better idea of what the "going rate" is.

Euro Delivery........... by bargamon

Car man,

Do you see any disadvantage to Euro delivery?

What do you think of getting a better deal on a 5 vs an 07 X3 or 3 sport wagon. Given the 07s are out.

I wish to go to Switzerland skiing with a BMW and then ship it home. Air fairs are decent now and I really must lock in soon. WIth 07 prices on X3 and 4 not yet available its my perception I can get a better deal on a 5 sedan than the others. Seems I can negotiate my price, get an additional 2500-3000 off and order my colors and equipment.

Anything wrong with this logic?

Thank you!

Thanks for the additional information, newkid300. OK, so you were quoted a discount of $1,190 on this car. A base 2007 BMW 525i has a spread of around $3,300 between its full MSRP and dealer invoice prices, so you are at a little over $2,000 over dealer invoice. There's definitely some room to play here, if you are in an area that has several BMW dealers it wouldn't hurt to shop around a little bit to see if you can beat the price that you've already been quoted. Also, make sure to stop by the following discussion to see how much other consumers have paid for similar cars lately: "BMW 5-Series: Prices Paid & Buying Experience".

Hi bu96. Destination charges are essentially part of vehicles' prices and should be treated as such. All of the other charges that dealers try to tack onto deals just serve to cloud the big picture. The bottom line is that you want to drive off the lot in the car that you want, paying the least amount of money possible. It doesn't really matter how the price breaks down in terms of fees. Have the dealer that you are working with quote you an out-the-door price that includes every fee for the car that you want. If you feel as though this price is too high, shop around for other out-the-door prices to compare it with.

Hi spidy99. You are only being given a $550 discount on this car. A base 2007 BMW 530i has a spread of over $3,600 between its full MSRP and dealer invoice price, with options the spread is even higher than this. As you can see, you've definitely got some room to play here. It would be in your best interest to comparison shop a little bit to see if you can beat your current price quote.

The money factor that you were quoted is right in line with BMW Financial Services' current buy rate for this car. This is a good sign because it means that the dealer that you are working with is not trying to mark your car's factor up to add additional hidden back-end profit to your deal.

For now I will calculate a couple of sample lease payments for you based upon the prices that you mentioned. Keep in mind that if you are able to negotiate a lower selling price, your car's lease payment will drop. According to my calculations, if you were to lease a 2007 BMW 530i with an MSRP of $47,500 and a selling price of $46,950 through BMW Financial Services right now for 24 months with 15,000 miles per year, your zero down, pre-tax monthly payment should be around $752. The payment for an otherwise identical 36 month lease should be around $683.

Greetings jab9. BMW is not currently providing any sort of lease support on the 2006 M5 (awesome car btw ). As a result, if you were to lease one through BMW Financial Services right now you would have to use its standard lease money factor. Its standard money factor varies by region, but it should be around .00310 to .00315 right now. This car's 36 month, 12,000 mile per year residual value is currently 57%. Its 10,000 mile per year residual value is 1% higher.

No problem, Mark1234. Capitalized cost reductions are absolutely not required. It never hurts to shop around. Good luck.

Hi benbrandt. You mentioned this car's dealer invoice price in your post but never mentioned its selling price. I assume that you are not paying invoice for it. It is important for you to know exactly what your car's selling price is. It gives you an idea of what sort of discount you are being given. All of the other aspects of this deal look good to me, i.e. the acquisition fee, money factor, etc... If you provide me with this car's selling price I will tell you what I think.

Hi bargamon. Taking European Delivery of a BMW is a great deal. The only disadvantage that I see comes when leasing. I've heard that BMW Financial Services charges consumers who lease a higher money factor for vehicles that are sold through the European Delivery program, but I do not know the exact details.
