Thanks Walt.

Given how steep the lease rates are for the Wagon, we may just pay cash for the darned thing. Grrr.

Thanks coby03.

You must be so anxious to get your car.... I test drove the 335i this weekend and it was an incredible car. I sure hope that I get get a similar deal once I'm ready to buy (lease). But I suppose I need to keep a level head and not go overboard in payments too... so would the 0.0021 and 64% also be applicable for a 328i, or are there different numbers for that car? I really like the 335i but I'm thinking the 328i is also a nice car to drive.

Thanks for the help. I'm sure we won't be seeing you in this forum in about six weeks since you'll be out enjoying your new ride every chance you get!

Ya wanna know what sucketh even more? I just checked the lease price differences between a tarted up 535i and a 535xi Sport Wagon, both of which were configured to exactly $61,625. Guess what? They're identical, $647 for a 3-Year/36,000 mile lease and $679 for a 3-Year/45,000 mile lease.

Looked at another way, configured apples to apples, the 328xi Sport Wagon that Mrs. Shipo is looking at comes out to $45,400 while an identical (from an option perspective) 535xi Sport Wagon comes out to $61,625, roughly 35% more. So far, so good, however, after calculating the lease prices given the ED discounts and such, I come up with 3-Year/36,000 mile and 3-Year/45,000 mile monthly lease prices of $548 and $571 for the 3-Series and $647 and $679 for the 5-Series, differences of only 18% and 19% respectively.

So, the question is, why is BMW-FS picking on the 3-Series Wagon compared to virtually every other 3-Series and 5-Series car?

Best Regards,
Shipo

I didn't take the time to go check just now, but the last I looked over the complete list of money factors (you know where), the 3-series sedan was, by far, the lowest. Plus, in the case of the wagon vs. sedan, for 3 yrs/15K, the residual was a percentage point higher for the sedan as well. For all I know, it has the highest residual on the list also.

I knew they were subsidizing the 3 sedan, but it's exercises like this that illustrate the degree to which it's happening. Wagon, coupe, convertible, 5-series & all the rest need not apply.

Hmmm, while it's not "apples-to-apples", the numbers that I've run seem to indicate that only the 3-Series wagon is being left out in the cold. True the 3-Series sedan may well be seeing slightly lower numbers than say the 3-Series coupe or any of the 5-Series cars, but geez, the 3-Series wagon numbers are so high that I'm actually wondering if we shouldn't pony up an get a 5-Series wagon.

BTW, I haven't looked for leasing numbers for so long that I actually don't know where to look for money factors and residuals.

Best Regards,
Shipo

From what I've seen on this board, I believe the 328i sedan MF is lower than the 335i. Looking back several posts, I saw someone report a MF of 0.00175 for the 328i vs. the 0.0021 for the 335i. kyfdx or Car_man could verify if you inquire.

The 335i has great power and a high fun-to-drive factor, but everything I've seen and heard about the 328i is that it's no slouch. I currently have a 2005 330Ci with the ZHP package. From seat of the pants feel, it was pretty similar to the performance of a 328i coupe that I test drove but you would expect that given similar HP and Torque numbers. But the 335i was noticeably faster than either of them (I guess that's what 300 HP vs 230 HP will do). I couldn't really notice any significant handling differences, but I didn't beat on either of them during the test drives. As is said here many times, you can't go wrong with whatever you choose. Both are gerat cars. Good luck deciding!

Here's something I lifted from an earlier posting on this board:

However, those links won't do you much good without knowing the residual values & money factors for the BMW(s) you're interested in. Go to the Bimmerfest web site, select Forums & go to the Ask-A-Dealer section. At or near the top will be the current lease rates for every BMW sold in the U.S. These can change monthly (usually don't, but can), so if it's a few months before you're ready to pull the trigger, be sure to recheck.
