Hello Host!! Have I got a deal? by rxke

HI

I have been negotiating for a BMW328XI with the premium package, automatic, heated seats, and metallic paint. The MSRP is $40395 and the invoice is $37,260. The sales price is $38,440 ($37,260 + $480 dealer advertising and training + $700 dealer profit.)with no money down. Additionally there is a bank fee of $625, a doc fee of $45, an inspection sticker $10, and a tire tax of $10. ($1240 to be paid separate from the lease). For 36 months and 15K per year I got a lease payment of $545 per month which includes NY tax for Westchester (7.38%).

My questions are:
1. Is the $480 advertising and training fee negotiable?
Do I really have to pay it?
2. Is the $700 over invoice a fair price?
3. When I did the lease calculation I came up with $538.70 but the sales person said that I did not factor in that there is interest on the tax that I am paying over the lease period and that is why my calculation was not accurate(My calculation: RV $24,640.95 + Neg price minus RV over 36 months =$381.92 + Neg Price + RV taimes .00190 = $119.76 + NY tax $37.02 =$538.70). Is that a standard practice or B.S.?
4. I am returning a BMW 325XI and will have to pay a disposition fee of $350. If I lease another BMW can I have that fee waived? Does it make a difference if I get the new car from the original dealer I got it from or another dealer in terms of not paying the disposition fee?

I APPRECIATE ANY HELP YOU CAN GIVE ME. THANKS

1) Everything is negotiable.. That stated, at only $700 over invoice, your dealer may not be willing to come down any more.

2) Seems cheap to me. I think the whole deal looks good.

3) In NY state, the tax is calculated, then paid upfront (added to your cap cost, in this case), so the payment should be a little more, due to the money factor being applied... but, the difference is less than $3/mo. I'm not sure exactly how much the tax is.. ask the dealer, and that may account for the rest of the discrepancy.

4) If your old lease is with BMWFS and the new one is, also, then you shouldn't have to pay a disposition fee.. I'd call BMWFS, in advance to verify.

kyfdx

What about the advertising and training fee of $480? Is that legit fee that has to be paid or a way to get more $ out of us consumers?

Thank you so much for your input. It is really appreciated. You guys do a great job helping all of us!!

Those fees are part of the dealer's invoice.. Evidently, you negotiated a deal for $700 over invoice.. You get what you ask for..

So, you aren't really paying those fees, the dealer is... What you are paying: The selling price of the car. Edmunds invoice + $1180 looks like a good deal..

HI Again

Has the money factor gone down on the 328XI sedan? I am using .00190 but I see .00155 and .00125 for the coupe.

Thanks again for your help.

The quote I received on Feb 17 from BMW peabody had a money factor of .00147 on a 24 month lease - 20,000 mi/yr. Roadfly.com has the rate .00100 for same at 15,000 mi./year
