Another lease question for Car Man by dmargo2

Thanks for all the prior advice. I plan to take delivery within the week of a 2009 A4 Prestige + Nav. I plan to lease. My question relates to residual values and miles. I tend to drive about 18 K/year. Should I pay for the miles upfront OR should I take a 15K/year lease and just pay the penalty at the end. If its the same residual, my guess is pay upfront as they tend to charge less per mile..but if they adjust residual value....then I ????? Please help and I appreciate your advice. I have not decided on a 24/30/36 month term..but I'm willing to listen to your advice re: best bang for the buck, so to speak. Thanks Dave

Hi alwaysarookie. It would be much easier for us to give you our opinion of this deal if you told us what the MSRP and selling price of this car are.

Hi mehra1. The money factor that you were quoted for this car is right in line with Audi Financial Services buy rate for it. That is a good thing.

Let's take a look at the other important factor, the selling price. The Audi A4 Cabrio that you are interested in has a spread of over $3,000 between its full MSRP and its dealer invoice price. If I had to guess, I'd say that the selling price that you were quoted is probably around $1,500 over invoice, which isn't bad, but there's still some room there. Have you tried comparison shopping with another dealer or two. It probably wouldn't hurt. Also, make sure to stop by the "Audi A4 Prices Paid and Buying Experience" discussion to see how much other community members have paid for similar cars recently.

Good question, Dave. 15,000 miles per year is the highest mileage allowance that Audi Financial Services publishes residual values for. If you need to drive more than this, you will have to purchase additional miles on a per-mile basis. It is less expensive to do so at lease signing than it is to wait until lease-end and have to pay an excess mileage penalty.

thanks. I forgot to mention..its a 2.0 A4 Prestige + Nav...please verify the MF and Residual...i'm assuming residual the same at 15K and 18K? Follow up question...how dumb is it to take the 3 year lease knowing the last 4-5K miles it will be out of warranty? Thanks again. Dave
