Since you didn't give the most important number, the selling price, impossible to tell you how good of a deal it is. Do you buy a house by payment or selling price? Hopefully selling price, which is the same way you should buy/lease a car.

Of course... If I rent a house, I don't worry about what the owner paid for it... even if it does have an indirect effect on the rent..

That isn't apples to apples, but all else being equal (i.e.: money due at signing), the most important number is the monthly payment.

Knowing how the dealer got to that payment might help you negotiate a better deal... but, it could still be a lousy lease payment.

I'm inclined to agree with you. Actually, I AM just renting the car, not buying it. If I intended to buy it after the lease was up, I'm sure the selling price would come into play there. But I'm not. I'll admit, I don't know all the in's and out's, math formulas and all that stuff. I get involved with this once every 3 years and if I can negotiate a monthly payment that I'm happy with, what else matters?

In the end, I was able to lease the TL (no tech pkg) for $469/mo, no money down. The dealer also paid the last two payments of my 2006 TSX lease. I've been leasing from them for almost 10 years and they treat me very well. They bend over backwards to provide the best service and if someone else somewhere in the USA scored a better deal, good for them. I'm satisfied with the deal I accepted. I'll get back to you all in 2012 and we'll kick this around again.

If you know the selling price of the car you can with very little effort determine what the lease payment should be, and whether or not the dealer is jerking you around by doing things like marking up the MF.

Hi Carman,

Here is a quote I got today from acura in Tustin, CA.

Trim - 2009 Tl with Tech (+navigator) w/o AWD, black/black (in stock)

Retail Value 39445
Dealer discount 3222.17
sale price 36222.83
Sales Tax 3174.31
Tire Fee 8.75
Estimate Registeration fee 505.00
Total sales price 39965.89

$3000 drive off Include first month payment ..etc.
$525 incl tax.

I'm a first time buyer, they said my credit report is on the edge. No load history before. My GF who help co-sign still had a mazda 3 load for 1 and half year. So I guess my credit is not preferred by the bank.

Under this circumstance, do you guys think this is a decent deal??

Thanks!

TL + Tech in South Florida (Broward) by neilkod

On a 2009 TL-Tech 12k miles 3 years

MSRP 39,445
Residual 57% $22,483
Lease Rate: .00220
Tax: 6%
Selling Cost - 35,000
nothing down, dealer wants $521/month.

I thought the selling cost was ok, especially compared to TMV, but am finding the dealers' claims a little sketchy-
they said the car's invoice was 36,627, but edmunds.com says the invoice is about $35.5.

It's both my first time leasing and my first Acura, so I'd love some help from the hive please.

Hi sosodef1. Thanks for taking the time to share the details of your lease with everyone. Sorry to hear about the bad experience that you had at that one dealership. If you want, you can tell an even wider audience about it by visiting the Dealer Ratings & Reviews section of Edmunds.com.

At least you got a great deal on the car that you wanted in the end. Enjoy your new ride !

Hi mds3133. You never mentioned how long you want to lease for or what mileage allowance you need, so for now I will assume that you are interested in a 36 month lease with 15,000 miles per year. Let me know if you want something different.

Honda Finance's current buy rate lease money factor and residual value for a 36 month lease of a 2009 Acura TL Tech 2WD with 15,000 miles per year are .00220 and 55%, respectively for consumers who qualify for its top credit tier.

Hi getinmycar. Yes you can lease Acura vehicles for 24 months. Keep in mind though that the monthly payment for a two year lease will be significantly higher than it will be for a three year lease.

Honda Finance's current buy rate lease money factor and residual value for a 24 month lease of a base 2009 Acura TL with 15,000 miles per year are .00220 and 65%, respectively for consumers who qualify for its top aka "Super Preferred" credit tier. The money factor for a lease with only 12,000 miles would be the same, but the residual value would be 1% higher.

Hi warpinc. The highest mileage allowance that Honda Finance publishes residual values for is 15,000 miles per year. When you say that you'll need 25,000 miles, I assume that you mean per year and not total over the life of your lease. Is that correct? If you do need to drive that much, you will have to purchase additional miles from Honda Finance on a per-mile basis. It is cheaper to do so at lease signing than it is to wait until lease-end and have to pay an excess mileage penalty.

Honda Finance's current buy rate lease money factor and residual value for a 36 month lease of a 2009 Acura TL SH AWD with 15,000 miles per year are .00220 and 58%, respectively for consumers who qualify for its "Super Preferred" credit tier and pay a security deposit at lease signing. Again, if you need to drive more than this you will have to purchase additional miles on a per-mile basis.
