goofy basic trade-in balance question by nubbin4

I plan on trading in my van for ~$5000 and going into a TL lease. I realize it never makes sense to put any money down on a lease although - after the expected Honda Bank fee and ~$1500 cap cost reduction - I will have ~$3000 "left over". Is there any options for me other than reducing cap cost further? Would a dealer ever cut me a check versus putting all of my trade-in value towards the lease? Can I prepay a few monthly payments up front versus reducing the monthly nut [thus reduce my long-term stolen / totaled risk?] Also - are there any other popular terms other than 36 months - perhaps 39 or 42? Ideally would like to have my lease come off at the end of the summer plus the TL has a 48-month warranty. Thanks in advance to all.

Hi nubbin4. There's nothing wrong with using some of the proceeds from your trade to pay the typical things that you have to pay at lease signing, like your first month's payment, security deposit, and acquisition fee. However, that really all you should pay. Don't use anything that's leftover as a capitalized cost reduction. You should be able to have the dealer cut you a check for any equity that is left.

Acura's special lease program on the 2009 TL is only available for a maximum of 39 months. It doesn't make sense to lease this car for longer than that because its 39 or 42 month money factors would be significantly higher.

What dealership did you deal with? How do you like the car? How does it compare to the TL with the Tech package?

I'm new to this forum. Does anyone have a guess on what SHAWD w/tech will be renting out at come Oct/Now. I'm guessing they will want to get rid of the 09's and maybe they will come down some. I'm not looking to pay more than mid 500..

Acura dealership in Bedford. Love the car, however I am having a strange audio issue. When listening to XM the back speakers work poorly resulting in weak sound quality. Went to the dealership today and they said the stereo is fine and the problem is with XM. This does not make sense. Curious if other '09 TL owners have similar problems

Can someone confirm?
I just spoke to my dealer and they informed that the MF for January is .0025 or 6 %, is this correct? Last month it was .00165 or 3.96%.I thought things were bad for the Auto Industry, shouldnt they be looking to keep the rates competitive?

New lease programs by Teachndoc

It would appear that tightening credit markets are moving TL lease numbers up. Strange considering that TL sales were down in December. Here are the numbers that I got from Island Acura on Long Island for a front wheel TL w/Tech. Looks as though I will wait to see if AHFC offers any additional incentives. Love the car, not the numbers.

From Island Acura

Wish I could say it was better....but it's not !! If we
structure it with only the Bank fee & 1st payment upfront,
the front-wheel - Tech would be 39 x 10,000 thru AHFC
and the payment would be $528 ! Plus....this program is
only offered till 2/2/09.....
Will keep you immediately informed if AHFC comes out
with any enhanced programs....Thanks...

Can you get me the numbers for a 2009 Acura TL Base and Base w/ tech package?

Looking at a 36 or 39 month lease with 15k miles/yr.

Pulling the trigger soon on this deal, any help is appreciated.

Hi billyperks2. Acura's new January lease program is indeed worse than its December lease program was for most models. This is not completely surprising given the fact that vehicles' residual values fall as the model year progresses, particularly at the beginning of a new quarter or a new year. However, manufacturers often lower their money factors in an effort to offset some or all of this natural deop in residual values. Acura did not do that here, in fact its money factors for January are higher.

What it did do, however, is introduce new or higher lease cash on a number of models. This new cash is not enough to offset the worse lease program, but it helps. It is now providing a $500 cash incentive on leases of the base 2009 TL and $1,000 on the '09 TL Tech.
