I don't think it was ever answered. Is there a source for the Euro-style roof rails in the US? We have a 2006 Mazda5 and would like to install a roof rack. I'd love to get the side rails my parents in Germany have on theirs. They're more stylish and have less wind resistance than the roof rack they sell here. And it's easy to temporarily install crossbars. So, anybody know if the parallel rails are available? Can they even be installed on the US version? Any alternative suggestions for removable roof racks? Thanks!

Apparently they do make adapter clips to use their fixpoint racks with the M5's mounts but maybe I can try it out before I buy somewhere. Plus, all together both Thule and Yakima base racks will come to about the same price as the OEM. As for the box, I am hoping for a good deal on Craigslist. There have been several good ones listed for around $100. Once I have a rack and know the actual dimensions I'll strike.

Replying to: hapster (Apr 16, 2008 4:25 pm) Thule 460 - $149 Thule 3069 - $55 Thule LB50 - $59 ------------------------- $263 Mazda (all in one made by Thule) $360 Unless my math is bad that's $97 less, not $200 BTW, the Mazda bars are square tube and the feet do not have contact with the paint. Don't get me wrong, I like the fact that you can now mount wider load bars, but I gotta give you grief for making that your first post. |

We are interested in buying a used 2007 Sport Automatic. After reading many posts about the new features on the 2008, particularly the added A/C vents, I am concerned that the kids in the second row will "bake" in the 2007. Those of you who've experienced both, is there a discernable difference in climate control with the 2008? I think I can get into the 2007 for around $14K, so there is a large cost incentive to buy used, as usual. Thanks

Replying to: drbrop (Apr 25, 2008 5:14 am) Now, the car will become a furnace if left in the sun, and it will take a while to cool down, but I've found the Mazda-branded reflective windshield screen to be a great help. Some folks complained that it doesn't stay in place, but I suspect that's because they hadn't figured out that you're supposed to flip down the visors, which holds it up. It rolls up to store between the 2nd row seats. The worst thing about the 5 w/r/t heat is that Mazda used a lot of materials in the interior that outgas toxic chemicals. I don't think they've corrected that in the '08 either. UV light slowly breaks down the cloths and plastics, accelerating the release of carcinogens and neurotoxins. I drive a minute with the windows open during the summer. |
