new powertrain for the 5? by socal2006

Anybody know about possible engine upgrades for the 5?

Mazda has several new engines at its disposal now... the 2.5L that will be in the new 6 and refreshed Escape, DISI versions of the 2.0L, 2.3L, and 2.5L? All of these engines are reportedly more fuel efficient than the current 2.3L while having more hp. I think the 5 could really use one of these.

For sure they will put whatever comes with the new Mazda6 (2.5L DISI?). The 2.0L would be perfect but is too small for mainstream North American market taste.

Really? I rode a 2007 BMW 5 series last year and I distinctly remember there being no restrictions on the nav system.

Also, I know for sure Acura lets you use the system while driving. So it just depends on the manufacture's policies.

It may then related to the Country. The owners (my in-laws) live in Germany. The polizei is picky there

I don't think it was ever answered. Is there a source for the Euro-style roof rails in the US?
We have a 2006 Mazda5 and would like to install a roof rack. I'd love to get the side rails my parents in Germany have on theirs. They're more stylish and have less wind resistance than the roof rack they sell here. And it's easy to temporarily install crossbars.

So, anybody know if the parallel rails are available?
Can they even be installed on the US version?
Any alternative suggestions for removable roof racks?

Thanks!

I've seen some posts earlier but I think there have been no real answers. I went for the OEM one (it is Mazda, but actually made by Thule), a Thule Cargo Box (677xt) and the Thule Wind Deflector/fairing (38in). It has worked well so far, the deflector reduces that subtle wind noise...

Yes, I guess the OEM rack is the only option. Bummer, I really like the parallel rails from the Euro-version of the M5.
I get some options on both the Thule and Yakima fit engines but then again I also found conflicting information about whether or not you can trust those results.
Apparently they do make adapter clips to use their fixpoint racks with the M5's mounts but maybe I can try it out before I buy somewhere. Plus, all together both Thule and Yakima base racks will come to about the same price as the OEM.
As for the box, I am hoping for a good deal on Craigslist. There have been several good ones listed for around $100. Once I have a rack and know the actual dimensions I'll strike.

TO ALL WHO CARE TO KNOW: Re Mazda 5 roof rack O.E.M. is not only opt. Thule now offers an optional roof bar system (Podium Foot Pack-NO.460 & Thule Rapid Fixpoint XT fit kit NO.3069 ) as this is the system I purchased today 04/16/08 It's available on line, or at many retailers (Sports Rack/ R.E.I./ Olympic Outdoor Center ect.) Buy waiting for Thule to offer a mainstream system I chose square tube bars (factory setup has aero euro kind bars) to enable the use of all my Thule stuff. P.S. the system mentioned above was about $200.00 less than MAZDA!!!! Good Luck

Hmmm, let's take a look at this.

Thule 460 - $149
Thule 3069 - $55
Thule LB50 - $59
-------------------------
$263

Mazda (all in one made by Thule) $360

Unless my math is bad that's $97 less, not $200

BTW, the Mazda bars are square tube and the feet do not have contact with the paint.

Don't get me wrong, I like the fact that you can now mount wider load bars, but I gotta give you grief for making that your first post.
