I am still worried about putting my kids in the back seat so close to the bumper, but we are running short of options and I think the 5 is the safest and most practical way to go. Good luck on getting the deal you want.

I searched quick but could not find it... I once read somewhere that the rear impact protection on this car is exceptional, contrary to what one might think with it's proximity to the rear seats. I do know that while the Mazda5 has not been crash tested by the NHTSA or IIHS, yet, in Japanese and European tests it has proven to be a particularly safe car. Also, I found this elsewhere on the boards... a quote from another Mazda5 owner.... "Rear impact? I just got home from being rear ended in our new Mazda 5. While waiting at a stoplight, an older Ford Escort ran into us at about 15 or 20 kph. Her front bumper was destroyed. Our rear bumper showed only minor scratches; no deformation at all.

Why would anybody buy seat covers that look like the standard trim? If anything, I would get custom-made seat covers in a color or fabric combination which gives relief to all that black! fowler3

I live in sunny Pennsylvania [snort] and I'm wondering how this is going to go in the snow. I'm thinking front wheel drive should be okay, but maybe not. Will I need to buy snow tires? BTW, I have a 1993 Mazda Miata and I drive that year round. It is completely undriveable in the snow with all season radials, but when I put my Blizzak snow tires on it, my Miata feels like it has 4 wheel drive. I'm hoping the Mazda 5 would be the same way if I had to get snow tires for it. I can't state strongly enough the difference between real snow tires and all season radials. Like night and day.

Replying to: rideyourbike (Aug 03, 2006 6:10 pm) While the stock tires are All-Seasons, they're still more performance oriented than anything else. I wouldn't completely count out the possibility of adding some snow tires. I'm going to see how the stock tires handle the '06-'07 winter and if need be, I'll buy some next summer. That being said, my wife's Solara has ultra-high performance tires and they handle the snow like a champ. For pretty much any FWD, just go easy on the gas, easy on the brakes and you'll be fine.
