My wife and I ended up buying a 2006 Honda Pilot to replace my 2001 Escape. I just couldn't pass up the deal I ended up getting. I'm walking away from the dealership tomorrow with a new 2006 Honda Pilot for $20,250. Hope everyone gets what they want with their 5's and good luck. I may pop in from time to time just to see what kind of upgrades the newer models will get, who knows, maybe my wife will want to trade her '03 Accord in a few years for a 5. Odie Odie's Carspace |

Hi all. I've been lurking here for a while as my wife and I consider getting a Mazda5. My wife really likes this car, but I've been encouraging her to hold off until the 07's come out. (I've always worried about buying the first model year of a car.) Now, however, I'm wondering if maybe we shouldn't just pick up an 06. It looks like they've held up pretty well. Also, it doesn't look like we'll be seeing a lot of new features in the 07. I'm thinking that this might be the right time to get a deal on an 06. Thoughts? Thanks. |

Really the biggest issue I've had so far is trying to find accessaries for the Mazda5. Something else to keep in mind. I believe the 07's come with a 3yr/36k miles bumper to bumper warranty and a 5yr/60k miles powertrain warranty. The 06 has a 4 yr/50k mile bumper to bumper and powertrain warranty. I personally perfer the longer bumper to bumper warranty. |

Replying to: gabep (Jul 31, 2006 8:19 pm) Now I would like to just find a used option and save some money, but the few that are on the market are being sold by dealers and are in the same price ranges as new models. I am still worried about putting my kids in the back seat so close to the bumper, but we are running short of options and I think the 5 is the safest and most practical way to go. Good luck on getting the deal you want.

Replying to: rdelaney (Aug 01, 2006 8:13 am) For your typical, run of the mill "Genuine" accessories such as floor mats, windshield shades, etc, check with your Mazda dealer or online here: http://www.mazdastuff.com/directory.cfm?CategoryID=247 For actual performance parts such as exhaust systems, short shifters, suspension mods, etc specifically for the Mazda5, go here: http://www.srmotorsports.com/Mazda5_Performance_Parts.html And concerning the rear seat safety, I wouldn't worry about it. I searched quick but could not find it... I once read somewhere that the rear impact protection on this car is exceptional, contrary to what one might think with it's proximity to the rear seats. I do know that while the Mazda5 has not been crash tested by the NHTSA or IIHS, yet, in Japanese and European tests it has proven to be a particularly safe car. Also, I found this elsewhere on the boards... a quote from another Mazda5 owner.... "Rear impact? I just got home from being rear ended in our new Mazda 5. While waiting at a stoplight, an older Ford Escort ran into us at about 15 or 20 kph. Her front bumper was destroyed. Our rear bumper showed only minor scratches; no deformation at all.
