I've gotten my first 2 quotes from IL dealers and they were $750 to $850 lower than the first CT dealer quote that I've gotten (all for the exact same car/features), so still unclear to me if that difference is partially attributable to an additional dealer incentive that only midwest dealers are getting. Neither IL dealer disclosed a manufacturer to dealer incentive when I asked about it. I'm getting more quotes from Chicago area dealerships as well as in CT/MA for comparison. The IL quotes were for a Mazda5 Sport AT, with popular equipment package, door edge guards, rear bumper plate, all weather mats and cargo net (cash, no trade-in) were: $17,758 and $17,852, both were OTD (includes everything except my CT sales tax, which I have to pay back in CT.)

Be carefull. some dealers quote prices witout destination charges which is an additional $750, which would be why they're $750 to $850 cheaper. Also ask about
documentation fees. I've been quoted a low of $129 to a high of $389.

Last month, using the $1750 dealer incentive, bought a Sport AT for $17,144 OTD (which included $493 taxes) - Castle Ford/Mazda/Mitsubishi in Silver Spring, MD
Also turned down Sport AT with popular equipment package for $17,354 OTD (again taxes included) - color on above car was better - Ourisman Mazda in Laurel, MD
accounting for the options (about $600?), it seems those prices are still $500 more - i agree that there probably isn't a regional incentive - the "$3500" incentive quotes would be below MSRP, which would be about $2000 below - nothing new

The Chicago area quotes I received (from Pugi and Roto) each included doc fees of $151.65 and a drive-a-way sticker fee of $10-$20. I was assured by both reps that the figures I quoted above were true OTD costs - the ONLY cost not included was my CT sales tax, which I have to pay back in CT because CT is an "exempt" state. That said, I'll ask them to re-confirm that the destination fee really is included in the figures they quoted me. By the way, the doc fee I was quoted by a CT dealer was $399 (and described as completely non-negotiable), so I agree these can vary quite a bit dealer to dealer.

Thanks for sharing. I've already asked for quotes from both Castle & Ourisman in MD because they sounded like low priced dealerships based on earlier posts, so we'll see where they come out. You're right that the invoice cost of the popular equipment pckg plus the smaller items I listed is about $600 (exact figure is $615), so I agree that your deal is better than what I've been quoted so far. Did the Sport AT you bought have no options at all? I'm surprised they quoted only $210 more for the car with the popular equipment package - that's only 1/2 of the invoice cost of $421.

I'm becoming convinced that there really isn't a potential $3500 total incentive for a particular purchase. I read my CR pricing report more carefully, and it does clearly say that the midwest regional incentive (manufacturer to dealer) of $1,750 can't be combined with any other types of incentives, including national ones. Carsdirect makes this same general point about regional incentives. Maybe midwest dealerships have a choice of applying either the $1,750 midwest regional incentive or the $1,750 national "dealer cash" incentive in their quotes. If that's the case, you could say there is $3,500 in incentives in the midwest, but you'd never see more than $1,750 reflected in a particular quote, so it would be very misleading for a dealer to dangle a reference to "$3,500 in incentives".
One thing I don't understand is Cardirect's reference to a "$500 customer rebate" in at least Chicago area (doesn't show up for MD or CT, and isn't listed at all in CR's pricing report.) Does anyone know what this is and whether it applies in addition to the $1,750 incentive that most dealers nationally are quoting for cash purchases?

in the bay area, managed to get a madza5 sport with AT (but no "package," or other add ons), for $15,950 (included destination). they tacked on a $55 doc fee, plus CA tax/lic costs ~$1,800.
thanks to this forum for helping provide a current selling price guideline.

The $500 customer rebate may be the same thing as $500 loyalty owner cash. So you can only take advantage of this additional cash if you currently own a Mazda vehicle.

Your $16,005 price for everything other than sales tax for a 5 Sport AT (no options) is a lot better price than anything I've been quoted in CT/NJ/IL so far. If I normalize for the invoice cost of the options I've requested, your CA price (pre-tax) is still about $1,100 lower than the best IL price, and about $2,000 lower than the best east coast price for that car. There has to be some additional dealer incentives of some sort baked into certain geographic areas. On the east coast, the prices I've been quoted are within a few hundred dollars of each other, and in Chicago area same thing (waiting for MD quotes), but there are significant differences between the geographic areas.

Just got an email that my dealer found me the color we want and its arriving
at the Port on Wednesday. Does anyone know what ports Mazda uses? I'm in the northeast.
Also does anyone know how long they take to transport to the dealer?
