Finally sealed a deal by needamazda5

After several months of looking for a black, automatic, sport, Mazda 5 we finally purchased one for $17300 from Gaithersburg Mazda in MD. I was firm on not having a freight charge added so we were happy to get out the door with taxes/title/tags, etc for just under $18500. Looking forward to picking it up this Saturday. Is anyone out there buying the Teflon coating, our dealership is recommending it for the black clear coat. Is this necessary?? Looking forward to our Zoom Zoom!

In the past couple of years, automotive chemical companies figured out that teflon can be a useful ingredient in paint sealants and waxes.

If you are diligent in preventive care and wax your vehicle twice a year, the teflon coating is not necessary. If you ignore/abuse your vehicles, the added benefit of the teflon coating will not be realized.

In summary, skip the coating, and spend that cost on a nice dinner out in your new vehicle.

Extended Warranty by crail29

Just bought a Mazda5 (Touring, AT) yesterday. While I got a pretty good price on the vehicle, I foolishly purchased an extended warranty (through Mazda, not a 3rd party) without realizing that the cost of this is also completely negotiable. I paid about $1,200 to extend the factory warranty to 10yrs/100,000 miles, with a $100 deductible.

Does anyone have a sense of how badly I got taken?

At this point, it's pretty much water under the bridge.

Unless you can some how "return" the extend warranty, I wouldn't worry about it and just enjoy the car.

Welcome fellow Mazda5 owner!

In fact I can "return" the warranty for a refund for up to 30 days. I am interested in the protection the warranty offers - what I'd really like to know is what others have paid for the same coverage ("Total Care" package, 120mths/100,000 miles, with a $100 deductible)

extended warranty by mr2spyder

Extended warranty is such a personal perference. And its worthiness depends on the vehicles too. I had extended warranty on my two recent vehicles: MR2spyder and RX8. These two vehicles are known for maintanence issues, so I think the $1k or so extended warrnty cost gave me and my wife peace of mind.

When I got a corolla and Rav 4 years ago, I did not get the extended warranty because these cars were reliable enough to me at that point.

From my experience and my understanding, the warranty is returnable and cancelable at any time. Money for the future period will be returned to the policy holder.
