Yeah, my 2006 has it but my 2008 doesn't. It seems that Mazda got rid of it to give way to the passenger's seat armrest, It also got rid of some other things like the 2nd row cupholder (I think due to the 2nd row A/C). However, I still keep CD cases and some other stuff on the 2008's "bin" but I have no need to keep money, just few coins from time to time. Now, if money is needs for the tolls, I recommend EZ-Pass, that saves time and money

it is funny not sure why they did not just raise the old top and make it full size so both the passenger and driver could use it then you would have a larger bin a cover and big armrest. did they not put a cupholder in the door now for the second row?

not sure what the size of the center bin but i am sure you can find one to fit and just screw a lid to the top of one. or maybe just put a $20 on the dash so they will not notice the stuff in the bin lol .

it is funny that the people in the know who recommend changes are rarely in the know lol

I think the idea of the front armrests vs a large front row centerconsole was to make it more open. Some of these CUVs with big center consoles can feel cramped. Also, it makes it easier for a front passenger to reach to the back or go to the back if necessary. Sort of like the Honda CRV or Odyssey. Whether or not it works with the Mazda 5 is another story.

Personally, I'd rather have the arm rests and the open storage in the center. Center console-type armrests are always too low to be of much use, plus you can't get too much elbow on them anyway if you pull the seat too far forward. Plus I like the open storage because it's easier to get stuff.

since you got my complainer juices flowing, why are the bins in the front door panels so short fore/aft that you can't put maps in them? why are the inside front door pulls so slippery that you can't reliably hang onto them on a windy day? and where can I put the dog-hair lint roller so that its handle won't poke me in the wrist as I shift gears?? Why can't the rear sliding doors interior handles be made more resistant to inadvertent opening by tall drivers who are only trying to reach into their front pants pockets but end up accidentally opening the rear door while under way? Mazda interior designers -- please spend more time in the field! (my complaints apply to our 2006 and I assume 2007 -- maybe not 2008)

It seemed that the most people complained about arm rests and now they put them in. But I have a manual shift (which is positioned under the radio and sort of feels cramped) and the arm rest interfears with me shifting or grabbing emergency break. Funny how different people have different ideas about what's comfortable. I love having center console as arm rest.
Overall I'm not very pleased with my purchase. Between the lack of safety for my daughter (3 star rating), high chemical toxicity levels, weird interior setup and dangers of not being able to pull my daughter out of the car after side impact (one of the European safety agencies mentioned in the article difficulty opening sliding door if the car is wrecked) I'm dealing with buyers remorse.
Is it 2011 yet? I can't wait to trade it in!!!

With a purchase as important as purchasing a car, you should have researched thoroughly and test drove as many cars as possible. It's tiresome reading about all the whining about the 'sins' of the car when it's your decision to purchase it in the first place. Now that you have the car, it's easier for you to look at the positives and enjoy the car rather than whining about it's faults.

It's too long a wait for 2011 if you don't enjoy the car!!!

I agree...a five minute test drive would have brought up most of the "issues" of the previous poster.

Really???? So negative car reviews shouldn't exist in your world???? Only positive? We should all love our cars just because we bought them. Interesting. Then this forum would just be littered with "oh's and uh's and ah's".
My bad.
Under that logic nobody should complain about a bad marriage and get a divorce - because golly you chose your husband/wife, right? You need to grin and bear it. And enjoy it now that you're married.
Ha! You make me laugh.

If you get married after knowing him/her for only a week, then don't complain after the fact for being stupid

It's because you are the biggest whiner in this forum. If you don't like your car then by all means sell it or trade it in. Most members in this Forum love their Mazda5 and it's tiresome reading all this whining.

I'm sorry but I don't think you'll get the Sympathy you desperately need in this Forum.
