You can also enroll into the MazdaUSA site and will let you know about any recalls you may need. I own a 2006 and a 2008, no recalls for the 2008 (so far), Oh and both are Manual Tranny in my case so 2.3 pushes me allright. I also rented an 07 w/ auto tranny the other day, and I was surprised about the push as well. I will definitely take the cue as to the increasing wallet size via saved gas money. I took your advice and got into the mazda usa site so if any issues come up, they will notify me.
