Hello all! I'm new to this forum, so please treat me gently! I'm thinking about purchasing a used 2006 Tribeca with ~17 K miles from a local Philadelphia area dealer. It is a limited version with navigation system and rear DVD. It seems to be in good condition. Dealer is asking ~$30,000, which I know is way over the top for a Tribeca with 17,000 miles and less than a years worth of B to B warranty left. I'm trying to decide a starting offer for negotiation purposes and a high offer that I just wouldn't exceed. I'm thinking of a starting offer of ~$20,500 with a drop dead point of about ~$23,500. I've seen similar models with half the mileage going for ~$26,000. Do you think this strategy is reasonable? Also, what would be a reasonable payment for any ancillary dealer costs, not including taxes (paperwork fees)? Any recommendations would be highly appreciated. |

I would expect to receive a call back by the end of the month, but if not, I'd continue to look around. I'm under no pressure to buy right now. My feeling is that this dealer has had a very slow January, even for a Subaru dealer. Also, according to a recent press release from Subaru of America, the December 06 sales of new Tribecas are down 42% from December 05. Unfortunately for Subaru, the Tribeca is their albatross, the Japanese Edsel! However, this is how I like to buy my cars, finding outstanding deals on quality vehicles that are out of favor with the general "current hot prestige oriented" buying public. My current car is a 93 Mitsubishi Diamante wagon, a high quality vehicle that was passed over by the general public. I bought it for $6500 six years ago and put on an additional 100,000+ miles on it since. Granted, the Tribeca is more than a little out there in styling (some may say it's uglier than a baboon's butt), but it does kinda of grow on you. However, it has excellent reliability and crash test reviews, and I can handle "ugly" at the right price.

from Van Bortel Subaru in Victor, NY. I imported the vehicle into Canada. It cost me US$30412.5 including remote starter, reverse sensors, bumper cover and rubber mats. No tax because I don't live in NY. The vehicle is great. However, there are some noise when turn up/down driver side window. The dealership here in Richmond Hill, ON had it re-adjusted and it's covered by warranty. Special thx to cocopandan. You advised me to import a Subaru.

Replying to: lkconfer (Jan 24, 2007 1:53 pm) Their warranty is fully transferable, so as a used car it's the best warranty you can buy. -juice |
