The 7px DVD/NAV 06 are being liquidated at about $6.5k US off the MSRP wihtout any bargaining skills.

Subaru of Mississauga - must be in Canada home of the overpriced B9s.

I'm getting one imported that will cost me around $37k CDN before taxes. I wasn't smart enough to lock in an exchange rate 2 week ago however.

This is the 7px DVD/NAV 06 Tribeca. The only problem is there aren't a lot of colors available.

Hello,I am new to this board and am looking for fair price advice on a 2007 B9 DVD/NAV. Will also have the mesh grill (but not the Chrome wheels or radio--I opted not to get those), starter, dimming mirror/compass, mats, puddle lights, rear bumper cover, & hood protector, shock security system. The dealer has quoted me MSRP of $38,979 and will get back to me regarding invoice price. Am I still aiming for "1,250 below invoice" as advised in this forum? Will be trading in a 2002 Subaru VDC. Thank you for your help!

You don't need to wait for the dealer to get back to you for the invoice price. There are many on-line resources (such as this web site, or carsdirect.com)

The salesman telling you to wait for him to get back to you is pulling a subtle but effective sales trick of putting him in control of the price, and not you (he already knows the invoice price). If he's got the vehicle that you want (options and color), tell him what you're willing to pay for it, and that you know that this is the going rate for the vehicle. Tell him that you'd love to give him (presumably your local dealer) the business, but that frankly, given the internet, and buying services like carsdirect or Costco, the prices for cars are well set. It only costs $300-$400 to have a vehicle shipped from 3 states away if you need to do that. I'm sure that there are plenty of dealers within 500 miles that would love the opportunity to 'mail' you a Tribeca for a great price. Be nice, polite but clear. Don't step foot back in that dealership until you've already agreed upon the vehicle and price via phone and email. Email provides a great written record of their offer. Make sure that you have all charges itemized (and that extra charges are a minimum). Dealers are quite quick to throw in $150 paperwork charges, set-up fees, paint protection, fabric protection, extended warrantees- all of which are high profit items for them, all of which are completely negotiable.

Some buyers have been able to get ~$2K below invoice recently, but I expect that these are from larger, high volume dealerships. You may reasonably need to pay a bit more in Maine, but- you get to live without 20 million people as your neighbors.

good luck, and keep us posted. You'll love the 'beca.

Careful with your trade-in. You might want to tell the dealer that you've decided to sell the 2002 yourself, and just agree on the price of the tribeca. Make sure you know the value of your '02, and mind the difference between the trade-in, private party sale, and retail for the vehicle. go to kelly blue book-(www.kbb.com). Selling a car is a pain, but if you want to save a couple grand it may be worth it to you. I would figure that selling a VDC Subaru in Maine would be like shooting fish in a barrel. Especially now that winter's in full swing.

Thanks again, Morey. I did tell the dealer that my 2002 would be staying in the family; like you said, that way I can focus on the Tribeca price. May I ask what you think about the reverse assist sensors (? necessary if the car is equipped w/ rear camera) (Please advise if I should post this question elsewhere on the forum) Thank you, Amy

I don't have the reverse assist sensors. I absolutely LOVE the backup camera. It works very well in all lighting conditions, and the well aligned colored stripes on the display really help to position the vehicle. But- you still need to look- so having a redundant audible tone (for when you're not staring at the screen) isn't a bad idea. [Not] running into one item any time in the next few years will pay for the option. Go for it (but it's not my money)

I paid 34.8K for a 7pass DVD/NAV (Not including trade), but he included a lot of options (puddle lights, wheel locks, auto dim mirror, mud flaps, etc...)and it was exactly what we wanted. Plus they gave us a great deal on our trade ($1,100, for a 98 ford escort wagon that wasn't in the best shape). After doing all the math, they gave us everything for invoice and then took the $1,250 rebate off that price. At a minimum that is what you should get. However they did have this on the lot and it was sitting there for a few months, so they were looking to move it. I wouldn't say i got a great deal, but i think it was more then fair.
