Things you should have:(IMO)Things that get used every day.

cargo tray, rear bumper cover, all weather mats( you can buy any brand for this - shop the auto stores), auto dimming day-night mirror.

the other things are up to you.

Live with the car awhile - add items as your need develops.

Enjoy

Hi there,
I ordered my Tribeca 7 pssnger LTD w/navi and Dvd and it will arrive on December 9th.

I just did a price on Costco and I was wondering what kind of negotiation room will I have?

Invoice:
Base $34,867.00
Options: $2,293.00
Dest: $625
Total $37,785.00

MSRP
$37,295.00
$ 3,165.00
$ 625.00

Total $41,085.00

Please help...I usually lease and this time I'm financing.

Thanks!

Wow FLGirlaol,
That's one loaded 'beca. Sounds like you've got nearly every option imaginable on her. Or- you have the SE package (Nice!) I'm sure you'll enjoy the vehicle- it's sweet.

If you're looking for the best deal:
1. Be sure that those 'options' don't include inflated dealer items -like $700 paint protection and such.
2. Go into the transaction informed (which you already are). The dealer is currently getting $1250 back from Subaru, so your reasonable offer price should be "Invoice minus $1250."
3. You're on the right path. Even if you are leasing, before you negotiate monthly fee, negotiate the price of the car! The Tribeca gets high marks for retained value, so leasing should be excellent:
https://www.alg.com/deprratings.aspx

4. Depending on the size of the dealer and how many cars they move, they still make money from additional dealer holdback fees (maybe another $1000 per vehicle- I don't really know) So, don't feel sorry for them. If they want a few hundred dollars more, than "Invoice minus $1250" and they're a good dealer and you feel will treat you well in the future, you're still getting a screaming deal on a great car. But- the negotiation starting point is (I'll say it again)
Invoice minus $1250.

If this place sells only Subarus, realize that you are buying their top of the line product. The most expensive thing that they sell. They should treat you accordingly.

Another trick- don't step foot into the dealership until the price is agreed upon, (email is fine). Let them know that you are looking on line and are talking to three other dealerships in the vicinity, and/or, are expecting agressive pricing as you would get from purchasing from CarsDirect.com.

At this point, price should no longer be an issue (if they want to sell you a car) and only if they can get you the color/option combination of your dreams.

good luck, have fun, and report back.

I am little confused. Didn't you negotiate the price before placing the order?

Purchase price depends on your location. If you are still negotiating, average transaction price is around 1500 to 1800 below invoice for 7PassLtd/DVD/NAV. Since your invoice is $37785, your target should be around $36100+TTL. Make sure the dealer doesn't add any crazy documentation/dealer fees.

Good Luck!

No, the dealer didn't want any money upfront and said if I decide not to get it, they will sell it. It will take 6 weeks to get the color and all the stuff I want on it they said. Of course they would have liked for me to fall in love with another color that was right there on the lot!

Thank you so much Morey.

I sent another reply but it never posted! Anyway, that information is very helpful to me.

And this dealer sells other items too like Jeeps and stuff so it isn't their most expensive car.

Charlie,

The dealer will give me 15% off on what I first order. I was looking at the puddle lights and rear bumper cover. Why the auto-dimming mirror? How is the cargo tray useful?

Bob -
I know you didn't direct your question to me, but I can't help chiming in. Puddle lights look great and the bumper cover's a must to avoid scratches, so those are good choices. Cargo tray is also vital. Got plants from the nursery, a bag of soggy potting soil, pumpkins from the farm, wet ski gear, dirty shoes/boots, or a family pet? The rubber tray will keep the cargo area clean and - most importantly - dry! When you're ready to sell or trade, the carpeting back there will look new, too.
Don't worry too much about the price you paid. It wasn't as good as it could've been, but they certainly didn't take you to the cleaners. Live and learn, eh? Congrats on the sleek new ride.

Thanks Jeff, I couldn't have said it better.

Bob, I'll address the mirror. It automatically dims if the car's headlights in back of you are too bright - Do you need it , no, but once you have it you'll appreciate it.

The car is prewired for many of these add ons so you can sdd them any time.
