Under invoice... We've negotiated a 5 passenger LTD with puddle lights, dimming mirror, and other add-ons for just under $32,000 including everything but sales tax. We feel okay about the price. We're working on the lease, just offered in NY for the first time in several years since the repeal of the vicarious liability laws. We've been quoted $389 for a 36 month lease, 12K miles, $2500 down, tax rolled into the lease. I've asked the dealer to give me money factor and buyout information which I haven't yet received. I'm told this lease is through Subaru Financial. It seems high to me. Comments? |

I have been through this before and had it out with the dealer as well as still pursuing what action I can take short of what I have already done in letting SOA know. But as an example I saw someone post: 35200 +tax for my B9, options include (above mentioned 7psgr limited, pearl white, beige leather, Navigation, DVD) puddle lights, auto dimming rear view mirror, cargo tray and net. I paid about 3,000 more for basically the same model. What can I do? The dealership was all helpful when trying to make the deal but after showing invoice pricing and expressing not being happy with the price at the time of the deal and afterwards under the impression that they would throw in some free options and future service consideration they basically only threw in 2 cheap options and then tricked me into spending over 500 more on other options and their installation while there getting the installation of the 2 cheap free options. They have since given me the silent treatment and not responded when I let them know of my further dissatisfaction. I think they think they got away with it but they will lose much more by me never getting a vehichle from them again , spreading the word and giving them a bad rep, not taking it there for any service or giving them another cent for anything as well as letting SOA know my dissatisfaction in the survey and other communications. Anyone know what else can be done. Can i take them to court for overcharging me? heh.

You might even get better service at the dealer if they remember you and made a profit (car salesman are human and have families to feed, too). Don't sweat it, I say. -juice |

Nowadays, I find out everything before I buy so I can live with whatever deal I am able to negotiate/find. Lots of people out there pay MSRP all the time. |

This is the 7th car I have negotiated for myself and family- so to say that I was prepared is to say the least. Instead of looking over what you should have done, lets look at how we can help the next person get a better deal. I got my prices with Consumer Reports Magazine at the local Borders Book Store. I took the book with me to the dealer and pretty much said this is what invoice price for this car is- this is how much invoice price for DVD and Navigation are- these are the only things I want in my car- all other features that the vehicle on your lot have is useless to me- and I don't want to pay for those options. I share with my salesperson that I understand that they are out to make a profit, and I am here to get the best deal- I also let them know that Subaru of America does give a "hold back" to dealers even if the car is sold below invoice so the dealer and he will still get paid. So we do the whole haggling thing- I offer 34K out the door- even though my invoice price clearly shows that as too low. After much haggling their best price was 37500- that's when you decide to use your strongest tool, WALK OUT. The next morning, I visited the next dealership (luckily two dealers in my area) and do the whole process again. At the end of that ordeal, the best price I am quoted is invoice- Again, I walk out, while driving away I call the first dealer and explain to my sales person, that I liked working with him better (I really did) and I wanted to give him a second chance- this is what Folger Subaru has offered, I don't want to play around, if you can beat him or even match him I'll be there in fifteen, if not, I thank you for your time. I purchased the car that afternoon- 4.9% for 60mo's- zero down, the only other thing that was added to the invoice was extended warranty, subaru's own Gold Plan ($100 deductable after factory bumber to bumber is over) for $650 ( this too was overpriced originally by the finance guy- I told him competitors have service plans for much less, and if he can't get it around the $500 dollars I don't want it- was originally 1200) Before you know it, you too can get the best deal for your next car... The important thing is never show that you like this car too much- and approach it simply as a business proposition, you can at any moment get up and walk out- you are not obligated to feel bad about the dealer or salesperson, afterall, only you will be making those monthly payments.
