Hi Jerry,
Just got back from a long weekend away. Thanks so much for yr reply.
This is how I figured it:
Edmunds Dealer Invoice $29,988.00
Optional Equip. $604
Total: $30,592.00
Less 3% Holdback (MSRP $32,295 + Options $979) = $998
TRUE DEALER COST $29,594
Plus Dest Chrg $625.
Total True Dealer Cost $30,219
I did not add the $500 NE Xtra Charge I read about somewhere so if so, it would be $30,719
What # is not correct?
I did get an offer from another dealer of $32k plus free tires for life. Was my 2nd choice for color (gold) but had all the other options I wanted. Probably should have stayed with it.....
Thanks for your help!
I have to turn in my '02 Audi (lease) on the 3rd so really coming down to the wire here. Maybe I should just buy out my lease? Haven't seen any calls from the 3 dealerships since I've been away

Let begin by saying I am only an enlightend consumer ( thanks to Edmunds and folks on the Subaru boards, as you can see if you check the other boards we are a happy, helpful, friendly group).

I paid $31,838 for the 5 passanger Ltd. with the following options..ad miror, rear bumper cover, rear cargo net, puddle lights. cargo tray and crossbars. I will add splash guards for an extra charge ( dealer cost plus installation ). Also I received full TMV for my trade. I also got the tires for life (free) but I don't think that is a good deal since all maintence (including tire rotations) must be performed by the dealer.

As indicated earlier holdback really should not be factored into the price ...holdback plus processing fee allows the dealer to sell close to invoice (+ or -) make a profit and stay in business.

With the rain this week it may be a great time to make a deal. If you would like my contact at Bertera send me an e-mail, or call , I am in the book.

Good luck!

Jerry

Receive Tribeca from Don Jacobs Subaru (southeast WI) w/out oil filler cap by bman33

My wife and I took delivery of our first Subaru, a 5 passenger Limited Tribeca, on Thursday, August 25. Needless to say we were excited and happy to finally get it. We used the IMBA/Subaru VIP program to purchase the Tribeca at dealer cost, plus the regional advertising fee (which I think is B.S., since Subaru has marketing costs built into the cost of each vehicle).

Delivery went fine. We thought the Tribeca was perfect - until Saturday, August 27, when I opened the hood only to discover the oil filler cap was missing! Oil had splashed up onto the engine and fenders.

Needless to say I was mad. The oil level wasn't too low, but I am concerned about contamination. The sales person raved how the dealership's prep person had 35 years of experience. Yet during the Pre Delivery Inspection, he forgot to put the oil filler cap back on? This is pure incompetence.

I called our sales person, who said he was sorry and that the dealership would clean the oil off the engine for us. But that is all they are willing to do. I figure a free oil change wouldn't be too much to ask - considering I have no confidence in Don Jacobs Subaru's service department at this point.

I warn anyone in SE Wisconsin or NE Illinois to check the engine compartment if purchasing from Don Jacobs Subaru.

wow definitely a free oil change and steam clean the engine area... thats the least they should do. if not complain to Subaru and on the survey Subaru will be sending you in 2 weeks.

When we took delivery of our Outback, our salesperson walked us through the entire vehicle... all the controls, spare tire, under the hood, etc. Sort of like reading the manual, without reading the manual. Not only is it good to familiarize a driver with a new vehicle, but a process like this would've prevented your unfortunate experience.

I will be picking up my 5 pass LTD at VIP pricing in a few weeks. Ordered puddle lights and mirror. My dealer is quoting 31,100. for the car out the door. Did your you have to pay any extras besides the 30,780 you stated for the car?
Thanks for the info.

the 10% discount is just for their customers, you even get a little yellow sticker on your windshield with a special number so when you drive in they look up your records by that number.
I had the cheek to ask if I get the discount on my 2 other Subarus but they said only on the ones I purchase from them!

the on line warranty was at http://www.business-solutions.us/projects/masterPortfolio/Subaru/www/other/home.cfm
to get the actual price you have to go through the initial part of their application process

its a Subaru dealer in MA, I got a warranty from them 3 yrs ago for my WRX, very easy to work with, send them the details on line and they send you the Subaru forms all filled out for you to sign and you send them back the payment and SOA sends you your paperwork. Gary Lang matched their price.(They were actually willing to match 3 yrs ago too but insisted I go in to fill out the paperwork and I was too lazy as these guys in MA had sent me all the forms and a stamped envelope to return them). For a 7/100 Subaru Gold Added Security with zero deductible it was 1560 (list is about 2400)

Latest update on our quest to purchase a 5 seated limited. We have a fair deal of less than $32K for the Ltd with puddle lights, dimming mirror, crossbars, and a few other modest add-ons. This was all done on the internet.

Today we took in our '96 Volvo 850 with 92,500 miles to get a trade-in value. They offered $1200--way below any listed trade-in value. They had a print-out with a value of $1550 and said they wouldn't even get that from the used car wholesaler to whom they were selling it. "If you hadn't negotiated such a good price on the Tribeca we could pay more for your used car but we're only making $300 off the deal," the salesman said.

We're going to try to sell it ourselves, or consider starting over shopping for a new dealer.

Any advice?

On the plus side, leasing becomes available in NY tomorrow saving us over $1K in sales tax.
