Anybody heard anything about this concept?? I saw it at the auto show a few years ago and it was stunning! Which means they probably won't make it. Or if they do they'll change so much of it that it won't even be the same car.

Since the SS was first shown in Jan 03, it has been on the show circuit continuously. I saw it in DC in Dec 04 and it attracted huge crowds. Clearly, GM has a big public relations investment in the SS. To abandon it now would be a serious embarassment, particularly since Bob Lutz is emphasizing passionate designs, e.g., Solstice, over boring Buicks.
Thus, it should be in production in late 07 as an 08 with the LS2 V8 rated at 430hp and utilizing DoD - displacement on demand, good for 20 mpg city. It will be built on the revised Sigma chassis currently used exclusively by Cadillac. Price will be mid to upper $30K. The Cadillac 3.9L six will be offered later.
A green light for production is excellent because it is a "parts-bin" car that requires little development, incorporates all the recently adopted standard Chevy styling cues, and gives Chevy a true muscle car to compete with Ford (Mustang) and Dodge (Charger). Currently, Chevy and Pontiac have no true performance car under $50K and GM is conceding a segment with 300,000 annual sales and a profit margin of $6,000 per car. Do the math.
The exterior will be the same, but the interior will be closer to a Lexus or Infiniti with navigation, heated/cooled seats, large sunroof, rear DVD etc. Many components will be sourced from China.
Only question now is what to call it -- Chevelle seems the most likely.

Oh sweet Jesus NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! They should just call it the SS! I'm tired of all this retro stuff! It's a new design it needs it's own name.
