I'm looking to rent a hybrid for vacation to see if we can replace our family car with one within the next year or so.

Several people have rented the Prius in different parts of the country. You might ask in the Prius 2004 thread. I doubt you will find any Honda hybrids for rent, as I don't think Honda sells to the rental companies. You may be able to rent directly from a Honda dealer.

You can rent Hybrids and CNG vehicles from EVrentals which is really part of Budget rent a car. I rented an Insight back in 2001 when I first moved to Phoenix. They also rent them in California and a few other places.
It's a great way to save on gas and try hybrids.

Fox Rentals http://www.foxrentacar.com offers hybrids. I rented the Honda Civic Hybrid from them this week.

Fox Car Rentals, not a huge operation, but they do rent hybrids. Found mostly at airports. Check it out.

http://www.zipcar.com/ has hybrids you can rent. They are only in select cities and are more expensive, but the cost includes gas and insurance. I've never tried them but am contemplating it because we're in the market for a hybrid and I'd like to try one for a week to see what the real world mileage is.
