Great car for someone who didn't plan ahead. The dealers going sticker mostly have waiting lists from last year, I will admit, so getting in line now will take some time. Can't blame anyone for wanting to maximize return on a limited availability car so I too wish you luck. Instant gratification for me will have to be taking the stock engine C5 coupe to the track and seeing if I can pass a few things, maybe even something more powerful or more expensive. Mod the driver, then a new Z06 might not be lethal! Wish I could post a link to the Viper wreck at Spring Mt. Motorsports Park last weekend, no one seriously hurt, but it's on another site that can't be mentioned. Having more HP than training is not a good thing! randy

Replying to: starrow68 (Sep 27, 2005 7:50 pm) How right you are regarding "having more HP than training is not a good thing." Just returned from a weekend at Road America and you see it every school. Have some interesting video from a couple years ago. Lining up in pit lane, had the camcorder going and you can hear this awesome rumble coming up along side me. The lumpy cam could be heard big time and along side me comes a highly modded Viper. Gonzo adjustable wing on the back; Hoosier tires...all I could think was "I hope he goes first or I'll have to wave that bad boy by me before I get out of the pits." I get the "go" ahead of him. I round the first turn and look in my mirror...he is a ways behind me so after turn 3 I look again as 3-5 is a long straight. He is further behind. Never saw him again during the 1/2 hour session. My son was timing us...turns out I was picking up 5-7 seconds per lap on him. Certainly, his car had the advantage but as you indicate, if the driver is not accomplished, all that horespower just won't cut it. |

Petit Le Mans is a 1,000/10 hour race, whichever comes first. This will be the third time that the two Corvette C6-Rs have competed with the new Aston Martin DBR9s. check this link C6-Rs on front row for Petit Le Mans |

The 1963 Corvette had a Z06 performance option. Only 199 were built and featured stiffer suspension, more powerful brakes, and other cool stuff. It was intended for racing. A Z06 won a race at Riverside, California shortly after it went into production. Also, 1963 was the only year for the split window. The Z06-specific master cylinder is shown in the first picture. This Z06 has the rare 36 gallon fuel tank. 2001 and 1963 models.

Just spent the day at Sears Point Raceway and one of the other entries was a C6 Z06, Black and rear end rubber is so wide it looks mean just sitting in the pits. The owner had driven the car back to the SF area from Chicago and had a 2,300 mile trip, in addition to some 12's at the Sacramento drag strip the prior week, just messing around. He did 1.80 for 60 ft on the run flats. Nice to see that there are some that are going to use it for what it was built for. He wasn't running timing so didn't get any lap times. Randy |
