Auto vs. manual by starrow68

Can't add to the discussion since nothing I've read on Corvette specific boards seems to be addressing that possibility.

I can see that it would sell since even with the 6sp as standard for '05 the manual was in 60% of the deliveries which I understand given the demographics of the baby boom but just feel lucky that I still enjoy rowing the gears.

Now, if xkss would quit posting pics that make me drool over the new keyboard on the portable I'd be able to get back to work.

Well the truth is like others have said is that it's just an estimate of mileage and GM isn't the only ones who take advantage. If you look at the hybrids none of them come close to the advertised fuel economy. My coworker has a Toyota Prius and riding to lunch with him the other day I noticed that his average economy way 44.3 mpg. It's still a good figure but far from the 60/51 mpg that's advertised.

I highly doubt an automatic Z06 will be coming. They will be making around 7,000 2006 model year Z06s.

xkss - Porsche profit envy by spiritinthesky

"due to the VW-based Cayenne and the keeping the dry-sumped engines only in GT2s, GT3s, Turbos, and CGTs."

By that logic, GM should be printing money with their use of 1950's push rod technology. And they have cornered the market for hard plastic and velour. Supposedly even the Corvette's steering wheel is borrowed from the Malibu. So, where's the money?

It's rather humerous to see you claiming expertise on Porsche's profitablity on the eve of GM's bankruptcy.

If Porsche is so profitable, why in this weeks AutoJournal, Audi/VW/Porsche/Lambo CEO say that in order for Porshe to retain a profit that they will have to foray into the premium 4-Door super-car market? Remember this is the same company who said in July 2000 that they'll never have to get into the SUV market because that's BELOW the company's values and standards. Guess they were worng about that too.

Bankruptcy- Interesting that you brought that up seeing how if V-Dub didn't invest in Porsche they would've been defunct 10-years ago. Porsche's interiors until late were nothing to boast about. Leather(maybe vinyl) that was extremely poor in quality. The dashboards were so hard you could use them as a deadly weapons.

Supposedly even the Corvette's steering wheel is borrowed from the Malibu.

Can you prove that for the 2006 model year?

GM obviously needs to make better decisions.

Also, this thread is mostly about the new Corvette Z06 or at least Corvettes in general.
