Factory added spoilers are not functional. They are not designed to create any down force. The spoiler on my Accord sedan does nothing except make the car look a little more "sporty" IMO.
Some people will say sedans should never have a spoiler on them. But if a Mustang has a spoiler on it, that's completely acceptable, and considered normal. My niece has a Mustang convertible with a V6 engine. My V6 Accord can run circles around that car. I consider my Accord more sporty (as far as performance) than her Mustang. Yet a spoiler on my car is wrong. I don't get it. I think it looks better with the spoiler.

I spied sitting side by side in a partking lot, two Mercury Montegos. Both had spoilers and fake convertible tops. It was quite an odd site because that is two more Montegos than I see on the average day.
With their glop tops and gold packages, these things never had a prayer of being sporty, so why the spoilers?

I really like the job Mitsubishi did with my 2008 Lancer GTS' spoiler. Not only is it shaped attractively it also does not create the nuisance that some have complained it does on the net regarding rear sight view.
Yesterday while driving on I-10 I looked backed objectively several times to see if my view was blocked seriously. Nope-not-notta.
I like the '08 Lancer GTS spoiler design and the sedan is benefited by it IMHO.
