Can you tell me for sure if someone can and if it really worths it to get an 2006 BMW 330i from Europe. Are we talking 5-10k savings or 2-5k savings compared to purchasing it from USA? If it does worth it purchasing it over from Europe can you let me know a good starting point?

It must depend on the options--when i put metallic, premium, stability, winter, and xenons on a FWD s40 i got 32.5K. And i won't go for FWD. I think a 325i is a better comparison, personally, 30K to start, and 215hp.

As for the european price, hondaconvert, look on the BMW priced paid thread, that's the place to ask.

This is not a good place to get into the pros and cons of European delivery for a 3-Series since we are in a specific comparo between it and another vehicle (the S40). Check out our BMW Owners: European Delivery discussion and/or the general 3-Series discussion for some more info on that subject. Try the Search This Discussion feature on the page bar, but do feel free to ask about things that remain unanswered in your mind.

S40 T5 Trumped the 3 Series in Performance by bons

The S40 T5
0-60 in 6.5sec

The 320
0-62 in 9.0sec
The 325
0-62 in 7.0sec
The 330
0-62 in 6.3sec

The S40 T5 also has 50 lb-ft of torque more than the 325
236 4800 RPM - S40-T5
185 2750 RPM - 325
This will make a world of difference in real life driving situation (such as lane change acceleration on the freeway or winter driving)
And Volvo top it off with excellent braking system (comparable only to Porsche)

In case no one hasn't noticed, the Swedes are setting the trend in modern automotive design, not the Germans. The S40 is much more stylish, classy, combined with Volvo legendary safety I think it will be the vehicle of choice for many in this market

"The S40 T5

The 330

I hardly see how this is "trumping" furthermore, the C&D has already tested a 330 getting to 60 in 5.6 ( although other mags seem to be getting more in the range on 6.0-6.1 )

It is true the s40 has a torque edge over the 325i, even the 330. However, the 325i and 330i also have no turbo lag, which will also matter significantly in real-life driving.

As for design--well, it's in the eyes of the beholder, of course. BMW's no safety slouch either. Stability control is standard unlike volvo, and they were innovators with side airbags. Wait until the crash test results come out. If volvo does better, more power to them.

Volvo convert. vs 325 by adp3

What do you guys think? I have a chance to buy a 2004 BMW 325ci convertible for aroujnd $38K. Should I do it, or should I wait and buy the new Volvo next summer with an OSD deal? (I found the 325 a bit hard to steer at parking speeds - I need to research if there are different steering packages on the car, as I'm not sure I like it.) Oh, and the Beemer is a buddy's car - it has 10k miles on it and is in mint condition. His wife was driving it but preferred more of a people hauler, so he's selling it.
Thoughts?

(p.s. I don't need much a back seat - just enough to haul to smallish kids around on short jaunts)

Trade-in on that car is $27,425, if it's pretty loaded. 38K is too much.

The steering is supposed to be heavy. It's the BMW motif. They went to lighter steering, and it made a lot of people mad.

As for the new volvo, who knows? A s40 convertible might be really nice.

27.4?

no, low blue book is 34.3 (with Harmon Kardon)

(maybe you put down "poor" condition?)

if it has the sport or premium package or rear side air bags, that boosts it another couple grand

but you are right that it isn't 38

PS it's the automatic. I don't know if that makes it less marketable.

thank you for the steering input - the steering is stiff at 1 mph (parking speed) - I'm not used to that in my XC90 or my Sebring convert.

it does have the premium package, as the roof is fully automatic
