Howardrf:
We picked up a Sierra 4WD Red Tucson GLS on Aug 2, and have 2,000 miles on it. Averaging 21 mpg in mixed city/highway driving (City about 60%). We also looked at the Santa Fe (Did not drive it.), but the Tucson was easy to handle, and to park in malls, parallel parking situations, etc. The Tucson also can carry 14 full grocery bags in the tail without putting down the rear seats.

But SAFETY is the REAL reason we went with the Tucson. The Tucson comes standard with electronic stability control, traction control and six airbags. The Santa Fe doesn't have the first two, and I am not sure about the airbags.

My wife drives the Tucson about 95% of the time. She also has a friend at work who owns a 2005 Honda CRV. The CRV tends to sway when cornering, while the Tucson hugs the road tightly and stays on track. It also does the same in wet weather. Haven't had to use the 4WD feature yet, but I'm hoping for a HUGE snowfall here in Mrrrrrlund (between Bawwwlamrrrr and D.C.). Oh, and one more thing -- the Tucson GLS comes with a front windshield-wiper defroster, so no more ice buildup in winter. I'm not sure how the Santa Fe would do cornering. But I can tell you that for under $20,000, the Tucson is at least $6,000 cheaper than a CRV or a Toyota Rav4.

Cheers and good luck with your decision.

Is this a good price (Canadian) ... Please help. by 91d28

Hello,

Just came from my local Hyundai dealership and this is the 'best' Tucson GL price (Canadian dollars) that they are giving me. They are telling me that they are only making $1.09 profit !!!

2005 Tucson GL model AWD 2.7 V6(demo model with just under 10,000 KM on it)
No additional optionis, the basic GL setup.
The price they want to 'give it away for' is = $31,718.65 (CDN) (this is the drive off the lot price .. all taxes, freight, etc)

To me, this seems quite high.

Please confirm with me if this is a good deal or not.

thanks in advance.

No, in my opinion it is NOT a good price. Using todays exchange rate you are paying ~$26,500 in US dollars for your GL. I bought my LX for ~$22,000 US. Even the tax was only $1250 US. So I got the top line LX AWD (with crossrails) with only 100 miles on it for a total of $23,250 US/ $27,890 CDN. Unless Canada has a large mark up or extra features the US versions don't have, I think you should shop around. As for making only $1.09 on the deal, well, I don't mean to be testy but come on!!!! As I see it they are making about $4,000 CDN off of you before you talk about the built in profit and they are basically selling you a used car to boot! At this rate it would be worth it to fly to another city if you had to to get a better deal.

Best of Luck,

Not at all. The MSRP for a 2005 GL AWD 2.7 is $27,145. Add $1200 for transport and prep. and sales tax and it all add up to $32,400. So they give you a "break" of only $700.00. For a demo with 10K Km, it just does not make sense.

Do you finance yourself or trough Hyundai. If you finance yourself, you get $1500. off from Hyndai; that's $1,700. including the difference in taxes. Go to Hyundai Canada site and go to build and price your Hyundai.

I agree with the other posters, if they include every fee possible even for a new LS you're getting ripped off, no less with one with 10K km on on. Accto here you should be paying much less.

Thanks to everyone for their reply on this topic.

I first started shopping for a Tucson back in the spring and back then, my no dicker price was about $32,000 (CDN, drive away price) for a GLS model V6-AWD, Leather, Power Sunroof, etc. So, my thought was when August/September came around, I should be able to pick up a 2005 model at end of year clearance for well under $30,000 (total).

So, I guess if the dealership comes backs to me with another offer, I should be looking at a NEW 2005 GL (not interested really in the leather seats so a GLS is not for me) for the $29,000-$30,000 range (drive away price). Plus get the side rails and trailer hitch thrown in !!!

Any one have any opinions on what will happen after the current Tucson rebate expires today? I could buy today or over the weekend, but I'm wondering if the current $1000 is likely to followed by a higher one. Guesses?

Thanks

Unless your dealer has really toss a bunch of stuff onto the GLS, I can't see it being $32K even at $Canada, ditto for $29K for a GL. Seems to me for a GL you should be looking at $4K less than that, at least for an average deal. Why are dealers not at least honoring the price shown on the web site I posted a link to?

Well with the GL MSRP of $27, 145.00 (CDN) the dealer took off approx $1400.00 to take it to $25,745 .... Add all the taxes (over $4000) , freight, etc and it came to $31,818.70.

This dealer is sure trying to take me !!!
