Financing decisions are not made solely on the basis of your FICO or Beacon score... Credit history is only one parameter.. They factor in employment history and income...

Every finance company has their own standards, and the credit report is only one part of the decision..

There is really no way the dealer could make any final offers, including financing, without running a credit app, and verifying job history and income..

So to understand what I think you're saying, it's not enough to walk into dealers and say I have a rating of blah blah, even from all 3 bureas?

BTW, how does the dealer verify job history and income? Is that literally spelled out in the report?

No... you give them the information... then, someone from the finance company calls your boss...

From the credit report, they can get a pretty good idea if you qualify.. Enough to do a spot delivery... But, then.. if the rest of the information you supply turns out to be wrong or false... they can renege on the deal..

That is (was) part of my confusion because the dealer was willing to do the deal even say on a weekend (drive out on the spot with the car) where there is no way to do something like call ones boss (I couldn't figure out how they intended to deal with DMV, etc on something like this either). Anyway, I realize that even as is, that our HFMC financing can still be rejected (hopefully through no nonsense of the dealer) even though we "did" the deal 10 days ago and get the car then.

Actually, come to think of it, I expected to be contacted by Hyundia and also from HFMC by now. The former for general welcome stuff and more formal info, the latter obviously for confirmation, etc. How long does one normally wait for either of these?

If your credit is as good as you say it is, then they will not be calling you or your boss to verify employment. The reason that your salesperson wanted your information early was to have your deal pre approved with the lender. This makes the delivery process smoother and less time consuming.

Went to dealer this weekend looked and drove both (Tucson/ Santa FE) . since both seem so close in size and features, what would be your thoughts for buying one or the other..

Just traded an 01 Santa Fe for a 05 Tucson. Get The Santa Fe if you need luggage room with the seats up. Tucson is more fun to drive, easier to drive in town and in traffic, easier to park and uses less gas.

I got a 2wd 2.0. With good winter tires and the traction and stability control, I figured it will be OK in the winter, we'll see. Since the Tucson is the 3rd car of the household, it is mainly my kids who are using it and a lot in traffic. So the fuel economy was important to us.

I really liked my Santa Fe (4wd, 2.7). Very good in snow and on rough forest roads.

They are both very good. It's really a question of personnal preference and needs.

It is confirmed that the Santa Fe will change next year. I will certainly give it a look.
