it did not remind me of a Durango at all, but sometimes I can be blind... ... A console shifter would be nice... Would this be comparable in reliability to the JGC/Commander series???...we keep seeing posts about the poor reliability of the Jeeps, made by DC, and obviously Chrysler is also made by DC yet does not seem to have the same poor reliability stats attributed to the Jeeps... Any thoughts on this reliability issue???

| Everyone - take a breather, this is just a slightly warmed over Durango, with a CrossFire hood to boot! I mean really, you all think the grill is handsome? Yuck, I mean YUCK for sure. And give me a break, the Hemi is powerful (really, it kicks a$$) - but the cylinder shut-off, etc. It is only rated for 14 city and 18 highway (same as the Expedition, which is larger inside and heavier) and less than the new Tahoe 15 city and 19 highway. This is just a joke - if ChyCo had introduced the Aspen in '02 it would be a hit, but the mark was missed ... by far. | |

Fake wood decal, vinyl roof, cracked t-top support, front end suspension parts letting go, the list goes on and on. Luckily I didn't own the car, my friend did, but the name Aspen still brings back very bad memories. I would of thought Chrysler would of followed the same naming ritual as hurricanes. Don't reuse the names of the really bad ones.

Replying to: jchan2 (Sep 20, 2006 3:38 pm) 1)Sufficient power. The T&C with its tired old Mitsubuishi 3.8L V6 with zero torque is a real loser. 2)The absence of an AWD option. Lost due to the addition of the 3rd row folding seats. p.s. The Toyota Sienna has managed to do both - have AWD and have fold-flat 3rd row seats. To be fair, the Toyota did have to drop the spare in favor of run-flats to make it work. By the way, I still agree with your point. You also get significantly more space (people and cargo) with the T&C.

Replying to: scorpio1947 (Sep 28, 2006 2:23 am) 2) Good point about the AWD, though that was actual due to the MIDDLE row fold away seats. If they just did the 3rd row, AWD could have stayed like the Toyota, but with the middle row floor pan dropped for those seats to fold under--no room for the driveshaft anymore, or the other components. A tradeoff, yes, but it was such a slim market, more people would go for the seat choice anyway. That said, the Aspen still serves a specific purpose--tougher and more powerful, and suited for things like towing, and the T&C more for general family and stuff hauling, with better economy and more usable room. |

Replying to: marsha7 (Sep 17, 2006 7:52 pm) Never had a problem with either. My parents have had a 2000 and a 2004. Never a problem. My sister had a 2001 and now 2006 liberty. Never a problem. I now have a an 04 Nissan armada with loads of problems. Guess where I am headed. Back to the Chrysler / Jeep dealer to look at the Aspen and Commander.

Tried every car in the last 4 weeks. I agree with all the comments above... BUT this vehicle has the best front seat for the driver that I have been in...especially for a over 6'... it's too bad they can't put the seating system in another suv or car! Toyota & Nissan & BMW (Yes I owned a 530)and Lexus all need to copy it!

Thanks for your comments...I realize that many of the posters here (sometimes including me) just post to complain, so I see a lot of Jeep complaints...but, when my brother was looking at a Jeep a few years ago, as he drove past the service department, the bays were overflowing with Jeeps on the racks...does this prove anything???...no, not really, but when he looked into the Hyundai service dept, he hardly saw any cars at all, bought a Hyundai, and has never had a single problem with it in 50K miles...does THAT prove anything???...no, but his experience did seem to correlate with the Jeep complaints as stated here...even tho THAT does not prove anything, I still thought it was worthwhile for me to ask the question...
