Hi Gabe,

Great! I've checked them out and have put both in my favorites. I'll have my mechanic friend check it all out for me for further guidance on the SGII.

When I filled up today (less than 5 gallons actually), the actual came up to 56.57 so I probably didn't fill it up all the way because of the bladder but that sure was nice to see (the computer still said 50 which I'm happy with). Next fill up should give me a better idea of the real numbers.

I live in Las Vegas so the summer heat does affect the gas mileage--sorry, must use AC! The winters are very mild but the evenings can get down into the upper 30's (usually more like the 40's though) and the days range from the 40's to the 60's. I can't say I noticed any better or worse gas mileage last winter but am now keeping track of it all so I'll have a better handle on the numbers.

I'm going to get my oil changed tomorrow morning and will have them put the back tire air pressure at 40 and the front at 42. At least I think that's what it said to do. I'll double check that. I think it said the front should be 2 lbs higher than back.

Again, thanks for all your help.

I was so elated today when I gassed up, I just wanted to share with you and everyone. I've put into hard use the 2 most recent tips I've learned about tire pressure, and not driving over 57mph. I knew this tank was good when I went over 350 miles, and the gas gauge barely hit the halfway mark. The computer showed 59.3mpg. After filling up (and yes I do top-off), it revealed 62.3mpg actual. Last week was 57.7mpg. I hope your mileage is improving. Yippppeeee ! ! ! ! !

Ethanol effect? by pf_flyer HOST

Any of you Prius owners seeing a mileage hit due to ethanol-blended fuels?

A lot of folks in the The Inconvenient Truth About Ethanol discussion are reporting 7-10% mileage reductions vs regular gas. I assume this would also affect hybrids but might tend to be a bit muted because of the hybrid system.

Yes this has been discussed extensivelly over on priuschat. A lot of people complain about the hit with ethanol, although personally I'm not sure how you can seperate the impact of E10 and the impact of colder temps unless you're able to compare E10 vs no E10 during cold temps.

My data clearly shows a decline in MPG during winter. How much of it is due to E10 vs the cold I don't know.
Spring Summer Fall Winter
2007 50.4 59 57.5 55.3
2008 62.4 64.5 63.1
change 23.8% 9.3% 9.7%

Winter is definitely a factor as well, but my ethanol hits came during the summer and were clear and consistent.

The "experts" say it has less energy. In some regions you can go to different gas stations with ethanol or no Ethanol so people have reported lower MPG with Ethanol.

I had tried Ethanol in my Chevy prior to getting the Prius as it was a flex-fuel model. I can tell you that, at least at the time, Ethanol was 11% cheaper to buy, but I got 20% worse gas mileage. I haven't read anything about the Prius being able to run on Ethanol, but since it has a gas engine, and with my prior experience with Ethanol, I would be 100% certain that the mileage would suffer. What I would like to ask other people is, Does anyone have experience running premium in the Prius, and has that affected your mileage????

No need for experts, it's just a scientific fact that ethanol is not as "energy dense" as gasoline.

Just spoke with a friend who owns a pair of Prius and although he's not a fanatical mileage tracker like I am, he's saying that he's seeing at least a 5% drop off since ethanol crept into our area of the state.

He's not happy about that either.
